M.Craft X isn’t one putter—it is nine.
At least that’s the hook to Mizuno’s adjustable putter line that connects the back of the putter to the face through the weighting system, allowing golfers to really dial in their specific putter, or have alternatives depending on the day. Imagine going into a furniture store and buying a modular unit that you can switch around in your room. That’s what Mizuno has done with the putter, allowing you to pick a shaft bend, and head style and make the putter truly your own by connecting the style of the back of the putter through the weighting system.
Forgiveness
First of all, M.Craft X is a forgiving putter line—at least if that’s what you’re seeking. Mizuno says it has found the middle ground with the look of a blade and the higher moment of inertia of a mallet. The mallet-style head ensures stability and forgiveness on off-center strikes. With a forward centre of gravity on all of the models, the line feels like a blade, but has the MOI of a mallet.
Customization
As you’d expect on a putter where the face remains consistent, but the back can be changed, there’s a lot of options in M.Craft X. It starts with three neck styles—plumber, slant and bend—which each cater to a specific type of putting stroke. From there the golfer can pick three distinct back shapes for balance, stability and aesthetics. The CNC aluminium milled rear sections come in a variety of shapes:
Four is a wider, square shape.
Five is more of a rounded traditional mallet.
Six is a winged fang design.
Each of the head shapes have the same weight, so truly this is about alignment and personal preference. The forgiveness is a little higher on the Six version, but a lot of how the putter performs is determined by the weights that hold the front and back shape together.
Weights
Each putter has options on three weights—from 7 to 21 grams—allowing the putter to be tailored to the dynamics of each stroke. Mizuno says this eliminates the need for multiple putters. Given the way the putters are put together—connected by the weights—you could readily have multiple versions you could put together quickly as needed. It is a very clever idea—and well executed.
Tech
There are few companies better known for their precision than Mizuno and you’ll find that on the M.Craft X line as well. Recognized for its forging and milling technologies, M.Craft X features a forged face and neck made from a single piece of 1025 steel, ensuring exceptional feel and responsiveness. The face is CNC-milled to offer consistency across the striking surface, guaranteeing dependable roll and precise speed control. The back is created through an aerospace-grade aluminium.
