In the early fall of 2022, Titleist launched its TSR line of drivers and fairway woods, with a focus on speed meeting forgiveness. The line was considered an evolution for drivers and fairway woods. One thing was missing—a light version of the driver aimed at slower swinging golfers. Titleist promised it would appear early in 2023—and that’s exactly when it has arrived.
“Thirty percent of golfers swing a driver at less than 90 miles per hour,” says Luke Epp, Titleist’s Global Product Marketing Director. “We’ve done a lot with TSR1 to help them gain some speed back.” Epp feels the new lighter line will also appeal to traditional Titleist players who have gotten older and don’t swing as quickly as they once did.

Ultra-lightweight
Titleist engineers worked hard to find any discretionary weight that could be removed to make the driver lighter. Every element, from the head to the shaft to the grip, was considered when seeking a way to lower the weight. The result is a driver that is 40 grams lighter than TSR2.
Not overly draw bias
There’s often an assumption that slower swinging golfers are likely to hit the ball from the outside, causing a slice. As such, manufacturers work hard to create drivers that limit a cut or slice shot from the tee. That’s not really the case with the TSR1. Epp says the TSR1 will really appeal from an aesthetic perspective as it won’t seem like the toe is in a draw-bias position making it attractive at address.
Multi-plateau face
A new variable face thickness technology is incorporated into the driver, which means you’ll see better ball speed when you don’t catch the driver in the center of the face.
High launch
The deep center of gravity is nearly perfectly centered on the face, creating higher launch conditions, which greatly benefit golfers with slower swing speeds.
Is it for me?
While there is a draw bias in the TSR1—“If you’re a player who likes to see a ball go right to left, this will work for you,” says Epp—this is also a driver that will help you get it in the air for longer carries. But don’t think you have to be a mid-handicap player to enjoy the benefits of TSR1.
TSR1 Fairway
Similar to the driver, the TSR1 fairway is lighter—20 grams—than anything else in the TSR line, creating an explosive fairway finder for slower swinging golfers. Players will find great benefits from both the tee and turf.

New construction
New open hosel construction allows the centre of gravity to shift lower and deeper, making it easier to get the ball in the air.
Open hosel construction
This new feature is designed to rid the club of unnecessary weight in the heel, which allowed engineers to shift the CG lower and away from the face, making it easier to get a solid strike on the TSR1 fairway. “Launch is really the key with the TSR1,” says Epp. “You’re getting a lighter fairway, but you’re also getting great forgiveness or MOI.”
Options
Players will find versions of the TSR1 all the way through 9-wood, which is 23 degrees.
Is it for me?
Once again, if you’re a slower-swinging golfer, the TSR1 is going to be a great option. The lighter weight makes it easier to get the ball in the air, while the increased MOI makes it the most forgiving and lightweight fairways Titleist has offered.
TSR1 Hybrid
“This is what happens if a fairway and hybrid had a baby,” says Epp. It is easy to see why. The TSR1 is a lightweight hybrid with a head that will appeal to both players who love fairway woods, and those seeking the options presented by a hybrid. This is a line that looks more like a smaller fairway wood than a traditional hybrid.
Stability:
The goal of the TSR1 hybrid is to offer more stability and speed for moderate swing speed golfers. The larger clubhead offers a lot of forgiveness and increases confidence.
Optimized Lightweight Design:
The goal of the TSR1 hybrid is to find the balance of lightweight feel and forgiveness. The mix of the two in the TSR1 leads to faster swing speeds and better ball speed.
Is it for me?
Golfers with moderate swing speeds are going to love the mix of fairway and hybrid found in the TSR1, as well as the ability to readily get the ball in the air.
