Titleist launches new utility irons with more distance, less spin

More distance, less spin—that’s what Titleist is offering in its new U-Series utility irons, with two models designed to offer ideal launch conditions, and higher ball speeds. The result—irons that will change the way you approach your long game. The irons, which Titleist introduced today, come in two versions—U•500, which are designed for those looking for shot making capabilities, and U•510, which offer more forgiveness and hybrid-like performance, with plenty of distance.

PGA Championship winner and Titleist staffer Jimmy Walker is sold on the new offerings. “My 3-iron is hot and fast. It launches high, but I can still hit bullets with it. And when you set it down, it’s a lot more forgiving than staring at my blade.”

U•500 TECHNOLOGY & PERFORMANCE

The U•500 is a highly technical utility iron with a compact shape that delivers versatility, speed and precision distance.

  • Strategic High Density Tungsten Weighting (98 grams on average) produces a low CG for increased launch with trajectory control, and a high MOI for balance and stability through the shot.
  • Titleist’s thinnest, forged SUP-10 L-Face Insert maximizes ball speed for more distance.
  • Player’s shape provides shot-shaping confidence at address.
  • Loft Options: 2I (17º), 3I (20º), 4I (23º).

U•510 TECHNOLOGY & PERFORMANCE

The U•510 is a muscular, wide-soled utility iron that provides hybrid-like performance with incredible forgiveness.

  • The Larger, more forgiving blade features a wide sole that promotes easy launch from the tee or turf.
  • Strategic High Density Tungsten Weighting (95 grams on average) produces a low and deep CG for maximum launch with shot-stopping control, and a high MOI for stability and forgiveness.
    • A forged SUP-10 L-Face Insert maximizes ball speed for more distance.
  • Loft Options: 1I (16º), 2I (18º), 3I (20º), 4I (22º)

Who Are They For?

Titleist says the U•500 is a player’s iron, for those golfers who like to work the ball and carefully control their trajectory. A smaller clubhead is attractive to low handicap players, but they still get plenty of distance and height on their shots.

The U•510 is more forgiving, and comes with a larger sole for more consistency. How forgiving? There’s a joke that’s been around for a while that says in a lightning storm a golfer held his 1-iron over his head. Why? Cause even God can’t hit a 1-iron. Titleist engineers think they’ve proven that old adage wrong, and the U•510 set includes a 1-iron that golfers can still get into the air.
