TITLEIST GT FAIRWAYS OFFER LOWER SPIN, BIG SPEED AND HIGHER FLIGHT

Fairways that fly higher, offer more speed, and greater distance with less spin—that was the target of Titleist’s new GT series. Whether you’re using them as a fairway seeker or trying to attack a long par 5, the GT series offer great performance from short grass or off the tee.

The key to fairway woods is versatility, says Stephanie Luttrell, Director of Titleist’s Metalwood Product Development. That’s the challenge with several clubs in your bag. Think of your wedges that need to work for 100-yard approaches, as well as short chips around the green. Fairway woods aren’t all that different, with the golfer using them from the tee and on a long approach into a three-shot hole. “They need to be fast and long off the tee, and they need to fly high and hold greens,” says Luttrell. “Playability and forgiveness are hugely important as well. The changes we made to GT fairways help deliver across all these performance attributes.”

Key Technologies

Ultra-Light Crown

Using a proprietary Matrix Polymer, Titleist’s Seamless Thermoform Crown is about five times lighter than steel, allowing company engineers to move this discretionary weight to optimal places on the clubhead. The crown is also seamless, offering the appearance at address that top players demand. The new crown allows engineers to push the centre of gravity lower and closer to the face in the GT2, resulting in higher launch and low spin—ideal for attacking a green or holding a fairway. The GT3’s CG is further back, making it more forgiving, but keeping it in a playable window.

L-Cup Face

To deal with variation on strike location, Titleist created an insert wrap at the bottom of the club to generate more ball speed on non-centre strikes. The insert uses forged 465 stainless steel, allowing Titleist to make thin, fast faces.

Shaping

Titleist altered the shape of this year’s fairway woods, flattening the sole curvature on both models, which makes it appear as if they sit lower. That means impact on the toe and heel are higher, improving forgiveness.

Which One Is For Me?

GT2

This is a high flying, low spin 3-wood with terrific forgiveness. Coming in five different lofts, this is ideal for players with a more sweeping delivery.

GT3

With more adjustability and fast ball speed, this is a 3-wood that will likely appeal to a wider variety of golfers, especially with the face appearing taller, a key distinguishing characteristic for the two models. The GT3 uses a SureFit Adjustable CG Track System, which allows fitters to move a sliding weight track into one of five positions.
