Great irons keep getting better. That’s Titleist’s approach to its revamp of the T Series irons, adjusting the iron line to make them slightly smaller, and punch further above their weight. Starting with the T100—“the modern tour iron”—and changing the product numbering line to see the T150 replace the T100S, and making the sets easier to mix-and-match, allowing players to get the most benefit across their set. Overall, this is refining a highly successful iron line that should broaden its already significant appeal.
The Story
T100 Irons
A tour iron that brings tons of tech to an iron that appeals to better players, this line was refined to increase feel and create more consistent contact for greater control—exactly what tour players and low handicappers are seeking. With a full forged dual cavity and enhanced back bar to help foster increased feel, as well as a refined variable bounce sole, the T100 irons feel great at contact and help offer a consistent shot shape and exacting distance.
T150 Irons
A new name (replacing the T100S line), the T150 irons give you all the great elements of T100—fully forged feel and precision in distance—but make them 2-degrees stronger, adding distance to your overall shots. In testing, these were several yards longer than the T100S, which is a big benefit for better golfers who might lose a few yards with age. You get much the same look and feel as the T100, including the refined Muscle Channel, as well as an updated shape that really makes these tough to turn down. For those golfers that felt T100 were a little too small, the reworked shape will instill confidence.
T200
Perhaps the biggest change in the line is the T200, a forged face iron that is completely reworked. The T200 is now more stable and uses a refined Max Impact Technology and dual taper face for great speed and feel. Don’t overlook the fact this is a distance iron, but one created for discerning golfers who want to like what they are looking down on at address.
T350
Using a new hollow body construction that is designed around the T200 model, the T350 is about speed and forgiveness, using the Max Impact Technology, a new dual-taper forged face and tungsten weighting to make shots easy to hit. Titleist call this the “Ultimate game improvement iron,” and it’s easy to see why—they don’t look like the traditional irons we’ve seen in the segment, opening them up to all sorts of golfers. The result is they are easy to get into the air, fly high, limit slices and hooks, and have superb stopping power—but don’t look like the game improvement shovels of old.
U505
A utility iron that can be readily integrated into a T100 to T200 set, Titleist has made these cleaner at address, bringing in the technology found in the T200 line, including variable bounce sole and Max Impact Technology. It launches high and stops quickly, giving you the ability to attack long par 3s or even hit it off tees. Consider this the bridge between the traditional long iron and the hybrid.
