TaylorMade’s Stealth HD irons offer unparalleled forgiveness

Twenty-seven percent.

That’s how much more forgiving Stealth HD irons are over the first generation. It is a massive jump, or as the company says: “These offer ludicrously high MOI.” That’s a bold statement in the game improvement irons category. After all, forgiveness —or moment of inertia in more technical language—is the key for irons in this segment. TaylorMade promises Stealth HD aren’t just forgiving—they are also easy to launch.

“Our goal was to provide as much launch and spin as possible without sacrificing distance,

and what we found was this design strategy often led to increased carry distance for the

developing golfer when compared to traditional super game improvement irons with stronger

lofts,” said Matt Bovee, TaylorMade’s Director of Product Creation for irons. “By combining this totally unique construction with our existing technologies, we created a high launching, easy-to-hit iron with surprisingly exceptional feel.”

Key technologies:

Draw bias

TaylorMade’s research is clear—golfers in the game improvement sector often slice the ball. Draw bias irons make it easier for this category of player to hit straighter shots. The goal of Stealth HD is not just straight, but high and straight, which provides stopping power into the green.

Shape

Game improvement irons have dramatically improved in recent years, a trend we continue to see with Stealth HD. The face is shallow, with a wide sole that lowers the centre of gravity to make it easier to launch high shots. This is also a progressive set, meaning head shape changes slightly in the longer irons.

Cap Back

Another issue with game improvement irons has traditionally been sound and feel. TaylorMade has dealt with this through their “Cap Back” design that uses ultralight polymers to create a great sound and feel. ECHO Dampening takes the polymers and places them in multiple points across the face to create a feel that’s unique. Remember, when golfers think “feel,” what they are typically reacting to is sound. ECHO Dampening is creating a sound that golfers find pleasing.

Thru-Slot Speed Pocket

A key TaylorMade technology, this allows face flexibility for maximum ball speeds.

Are they for me?

Aimed at golfers with moderate or slower swing speeds, Stealth HD will help you straighten that slice and get the ball in the air. If you’re a mid-handicap or higher golfer, these are irons you need to take a close look at.
