If you’re looking to fill out that gap between your longest iron and shortest wood, TaylorMade has the solution—their all-new Stealth UDI and Stealth DHY.
“With Stealth UDI and DHY we designed two different, yet similar options to provide versatility and forgiveness that can be a massive advantage for golfers in between their fairway woods and longest irons,” Matt Bovee, TaylorMade’s Director of Product Creation, Irons, told Golf Town. While both products feature TaylorMade’s Thru-Slot Speed Pocket SpeedFoam Air (from the P790 irons) technologies, the UDI features a lower, more penetrating ball flight, while the DHY flies higher and lands softer.
“Both the UDI and DHY are iron-shaped, which is key for what players like to look down,” Bovee said. “The UDI comes with more flighted trajectory, while the DHY adds a whole bunch of versatility to the bag.”
Designed for power and forgiveness, Stealth DHY delivers a mid-to-low ball flight with distance properties that rival traditional hybrids in an iron-like profile. The weight placement on the DHY is positioned in the sole of the club creating a lower CG making it more playable and easier to launch than a traditional iron.
“With its low centre-of-gravity, the Stealth DHY will quickly become the go-to option for so many golfers,” Bovee said.
Delivering a low launch with mid-to-low spin in a forgiving head design, the DHY is built for forgiving long iron shots and stingers alike. Stealth UDI offers a traditional address view with tour-inspired shaping, a narrower sole width (compared to DHY) and less offset than its predecessors. The weight placement on Stealth UDI is right behind impact, thus the centre of gravity (CG) has been positioned for a lower ball flight, while creating the spin required to shape shots. The CG of Stealth UDI is comparable to that of P·790, but Stealth UDI has a wider sole for better playability.
“When we were in the design stages of the Stealth UDI, we were definitely seeking out feedback from PGA TOUR players,” Bovee admits. “We wanted to get their take on the shape of the head, the club’s performance and the ability for them to consistently strike it through their shot window.”
Stealth UDI and DHY will become available on July 15. Stealth UDI is available in 18°, 20° and 23° for right-handed golfers and 18° and 20° for left-handed golfers. DHY is available in 17°, 19°, 22° and 25° for right-handed golfers and 19° and 22° for left-handed golfers.
