The Approach: Filling in the gaps—that’s the goal of TaylorMade’s GAPR designed to provide three distinct options for golfers to deal with the longer yardages on the course. A number of golfers have sought alternatives to the traditional hybrid, and that’s exactly what TaylorMade has created in GAPR.
The Story: Driving irons. Utility irons. Hybrids. There are a lot of alternatives out there for players seeking the right approach to dealing with the part of their iron set that transitions into their fairway woods. At the same time a lot of players are not comfortable with their long irons—3-irons and 4-irons are increasingly not part of sets purchased by golfers. TaylorMade’s GAPR clubs, which allow golfers to choose the shape they are most comfortable with, are designed to bridge the gap between mid-irons and your fairway woods.
“More tour players are adopting utility clubs to bridge the gap between their longest iron and shortest fairway wood,” said Tomo Bystedt, TaylorMade’s senior director of product creation for metalwoods. “GAPR provides innovative options for players to confidently hit a specific yardage with a specific trajectory.”
Key Technologies:
SpeedFoam
Used in TaylorMade’s P790 irons that were introduced in late 2017, SpeedFoam creates ball speed, while also offering great sound and feel. The resulting ultra-low center of gravity creates a hotter, higher launch.
Speed Pocket
A staple of TaylorMade clubs for a number of years, the Speed Pocket slot allows the face of the club to flex, creating higher ball speeds.
Who are they for?
GAPR LO
With a low and forward center of gravity, GAPR Lo is for the player looking for low spin and a mid-to-low trajectory. This version of GAPR looks like a driving iron, and offers strong flighting and workability. Aimed at the better golfer.

GAPR HI
As the name suggests, this GAPR was created to offer a high ball flight and is perhaps the closest of the group to the traditional hybrid, with shaping based on TaylorMade’s Rescue club, with its high toe and peanut-shaped head. The CG on GAPR HI is low and back, creating a higher launch and more forgiveness.
