Copper. It is the colour that’s been associated with TaylorMade Golf throughout the manufacturer’s history. The company’s traditional logo and colours were all based around the copper look, with the crown of its original driver featuring the look, and even shafts at one point incorporating the style.
TaylorMade is now building out two of its iron lines–the P770 and P790—along with its new BRNR Mini Driver (itself a link to the company’s past) with copper as its fundamental colour.
P770 and P790
Two of TaylorMade’s most noted iron lines, the P770 (aimed at lower handicap players seeking a smaller form factor and great feel that comes with forged irons) and P790 (a hollow player’s distance iron) are now incorporating the aged copper design. “We want to elevate the perception of our brand when it comes to craftsmanship and these irons have the feel of being both vintage and having that high-end craftsmanship,” said Matt Bovee, Director of Product Creation for the iron and wedge categories. “That is why we paid attention to all of the little details, even all the way down to the finish and the original recipe of the Golf Pride Victory Grip to make a unique throwback product.”
Both irons have FLTD CG, which strategically positions the centre of gravity (CG) lowest in the long irons and progressively shifts higher throughout the set, making it easier to launch long irons. The contrast of the copper aesthetic with the modern and sleek look of the two iron sets is quite striking. Created with a vintage feel, the irons use retro logos, and meticulously crafted components that seamlessly blend heritage and modern innovation.
