Taylormade Introduce New Generation Of P790 Irons

No one expected P790 to resonate with the golf market the way it did when it first launched in 2017. The hollow body irons were long but looked clean, like a forged player’s iron. They hit a larger group of golfers than anyone expected—those players seeking a few more yards but also demanding an iron that looked and sounded great.

Two generations later, TaylorMade has tweaked the formula that made P790 such a success in the first place, making the latest generation easier to hit in the long irons and more precise on the shorter irons, using artificial intelligence to move weight around to help create the best launch conditions across the set.

“P790 is a collision of art and engineering,” says Matt Bovee, Director, Product Creation Irons for TaylorMade. “The allure lies not only in the clean design and visual appeal, but also in the high-performance machine that lives within. It’s the total package, an ideal blend of external elegance and internal power.”

FLTD CG

Introduced for the first time in P790, TaylorMade’s FLTD CG is a technology that positions the centre of gravity lowest in the long irons, making them easier to launch, and higher in the shorter irons, making them easier to flight and control. TaylorMade engineers shifted the CG a millimeter lower in the 3 and 4-irons, and incrementally raised it throughout the set, providing the spin where golfers need it.

AI Design

The structure of the P790 irons were designed using AI to determine mass optimization, placing discretionary weight exactly where it needs to be. The most noticeable visual element is the sound stabilization bar that sits above the tungsten weight framework and is located in the 3 to 7-irons. The result is a great feel and limits any unwanted vibrations, creating a premium forged feel.

Larger face

The latest generation comes with a larger face, allowing tungsten weights to push towards the toe, fostering more consistency throughout the set. This also creates better CG positioning and makes the irons more forgiving overall, while the shorter irons offer more control and better spin.

Better look

Always known as a player’s distance iron, the new generation of P790 has a band of tour satin scratch bisects and a pearl satin chrome finish to create premium appeal.

Proven tech

Several key TaylorMade technologies are still utilized in this evolutionary generation of the P790s, including SpeedFoam Air, which is nearly 70 percent less dense than the original version, while the 4140 high speed face creates a hollow body construction that maintains a premium feel. The Thru-Slot Speed Pocket is still here, creating an expanded sweet spot and promoting high ball speeds.
