Jacob Clarke, PING’s Design Engineer, understands finding the right wedges can be a challenge. Clarke, who helped create PING’s new fitting app for wedges, says it is one of the reasons PING’s new S159 wedges are so significant—over 25 loft and grind combinations, they cover the needs of practically everyone’s short game. Through careful study of Arccos data, PING says it has a wedge to fit every golfer.

Tour-Inspired
PING drew on the experience of many of the best players in the world when creating its new line. To start, the 8620 carbon steel head has a straighter lead edge, something PING’s engineers feel is important on full shots. At address, the compact head features an improved hosel transition with constant offset that blend seamlessly into the new Blueprint S and T irons.
Feel
PING used an elastomer insert behind the face to create a soft and responsive feel.
Control
Grooves on the new wedges are precision-milled to create consistency and minimize variations in spin. The 54-to-62-degree options feature more tightly spaced MicroMax grooves. The 46-to-52-degree wedges, which are used more frequently on full shots, are milled for greater control.
Spin
From a spin comparison standpoint, the s159 wedges deliver strong results in the company’s much acclaimed “wet to dry” test. Performed in a controlled environment hitting 50-yard shots indoors with moisture applied to the face and ball, it’s a key factor in validating on-course performance.
Which Wedge Is For Me?
New grinds — H and B
The H grind is designed as a shot-saving option for players who have a steeper swing and like to have a versatile wedge. It is available from 54 to 60 degrees. The B grind is a low bounce design that sits low on the turf of square-face shots and is ideal for golfers with a shallower angle of attack. Available in 58 and 60 degrees.
T Grind
The most versatile offering in the line is available in 58, 60 and a new 62-degree model. Great for medium and firm turf conditions.
W Grind
Very forgiving, this is ideal for golfers with a steeper angle of attack who play with a fair bit of handle lean. Available in 54 to 60 degree models.
E Grind
A great bunker club that carries the tradition of PING with it. Low bounce when square or slightly open. Available in 54 to 60 degree models.
S Grind
Useful for a wide variety of players, with significant bounce in the mid-section, allowing golfers to attempt a number of shots. Offered in 46 to 60 degree models.
I absolutely love these wedges. Ping is solely owned and do not have to answer to anyone…save, their customers. They are also an engineering Company with a focus on quality and innovation (but not for innovations sake). I love golf equipment and when I go to a Golf Store, I linger around the Ping offering. The new irons are spectacular and the woods are as well (driver, fairway, hybrid). Ping putters have been copied by every maker in the business and there are so many choices. I still have an older Ping mallet. And now the new wedges. OMG they’re stunning. I currently have a 52, 56 and 64° wedges from a while back; they have served me well. Congrats Ping…from Canada, I love your sticks!
