PING i59 delivers premium experience for strong golfers

Great irons for the best players—that’s the goal of PING’s new i59 forged blades. The company’s previous generation of forged player irons, the iBlade, was responsible for more than 40 tour wins, so the goal was to update a successful product and refine it. That’s exactly what PING has done. These will be available on September 30 both online and instore.

The goal

PING wanted a cleaner look, less offset, and a better feel, but also an iron that launched lower and offered tighter dispersion on mishits.

Key technologies

AlumiCore

An aerospace-grade aluminum, this material is lighter and allowed PING to save 30 grams of weight and move it to the toe and shaft tip. This increases the forgiveness of the clubs to match the i210. This isn’t a simple process, but one you’d expect from PING, with its roots in engineering. Each iron in the set requires a different size aluminum core—but the result is a solid, crisp feel at impact.

AlumiCore Technology Increases MOI

An aerospace-grade aluminum insert allows approximately 30 grams of material from the center of the club to be redistributed to the perimeter in the form of toe and shaft tip weights, elevating the MOI to match that of the larger PING i210 iron. Each iron in the set requires a different size aluminum core, adding to the precision and complexity of the manufacturing process to ensure quality and performance in every iron. The result is a forgiving, forged iron with a crisp, solid feel at impact that delivers lower launch and trajectory control with the precision expected from a blade design.

Friction Face with MicroMax Milled Grooves

The forged face of the i59 has MicroMax grooves, for tighter spacing and geometry that results in four extra grooves on each club. The result is fewer “flier” shots out of light rough and more spin on longer irons for greater control.

Manufacturing at elevated level

PING is known for ensuring clubs don’t leave its Arizona facility without being inspected. That’s significant for a club like the i59, which is a premium player iron, and better players have less tolerance for anything unexpected. PING offers 100% inspection of numerous steps, including sole shaping, head forging, and face machining.

Lofts

Once again, PING offers the i59 irons in various loft configurations, from its power spec (stronger loft), to its stock and retro lofts.

Is it for me?

PING’s i59 aren’t aimed at the general golfer; this is a specific iron for low-handicap players who want to be able to hit flighted shots to distinct targets. That’s why Canadian Cory Conners is playing the irons. The better golfer will enjoy the changes in the i59 from PING’s previous iBlades, including the thinner sole, and the inclusion of Hydro Pearl 2.0 chrome finish.
