New Cobra LTDx Driver Goes the Distance

The latest from Cobra introduces new tech in a sublime aesthetic for a driver that’s all systems go.

Loads of pop and bit of sizzle—that’s the idea behind Cobra’s LTDx driver. A brand that’s long been recognized for its bold play and willingness to push the envelopes of design and tech, Cobra’s ringing in 2022 with a driver that’s focused on relentless distance. Utilizing trusted technological components that have proven their value in previous gens, LTDx (which stands for Longest Total Distance) seeks to give golfers the best of everything: speed, distance and forgiveness.

The LTDx family of clubs are available now in store and online.

With a titanium chassis that’s over eight grams lighter than its predecessor RAD, Cobra has been able to reposition discretionary weight for improved MOI while also adding more carbon to the clubhead for an overall faster driver. They’ve also carried over some key specs while improving the overall technology for enhanced performance.

PWR-COR

At the core of every drive is power, hence Cobra’s implementation once again of their PWR-COR tech. At 19 grams, this tungsten and steel weighting system sits just below the impact zone in the interior of the clubhead.

H.O.T. Face

Using artificial intelligence machine learning, Cobra’s LTDx face is meticulously engineered to provide optimal results at various impact zones. Truth be told, golfers don’t often hit it dead out of the middle (surprise!), which is why it is important to have a face that responds effectively at various points. H.O.T. Face (Highly Optimized Topology) has various thickness levels across its 15 hitting zones to provide a better overall smash factor for when you don’t quite catch it flush. The result is a driver that goes straighter and farther even when you don’t find the centre.

CNC Infinity Design

One design element that Cobra discontinued after RAD was its topline infinity machining, which essentially extended the face over the crown. According to Tom Olsavsky, Cobra’s Vice President of Research and Development, tour players felt it provided some perception difficulties at address. With that in mind, Cobra went for a more traditional topline look while still using their trusted CNC infinity face that’s better optimized for a lower CG.

In keeping with industry standards, Cobra will be releasing three unique models that are suited to players’ swing preferences.

LTDx

The standard-bearing middle of the road option, LTDx combines forgiveness and distance with a subtle draw-bias.

LTDx LS

You have to spin to win? Not exactly when it comes to drivers. Top players will appreciate the LS (Low Spin) version of the LTDx. With 13 grams of weight positioned forward, LS helps players who overspin the ball keep it in play, while adding more distance for skilled golfers who keep their RPMs at a minimum. It’s also just a slightly smaller clubhead at 457cc.

LTDx Max

Whether you’re prone to slicing the ball or require a little extra forgiveness off the tee, the LTDx Max was created with you in mind. With an extreme draw bias attributed to 3 grams of weight in the heel to help square the clubface at impact, the LTDx Max leaves little to be desired in the way of speed, distance and forgiveness.
