Callaway’s newest irons are already a big hit with Tour pros, which shouldn’t come as a surprise since they were designed using extensive player feedback. The new Apex MB and X Forged irons are aimed for golfers who want a soft feel, immediate feedback on every shot, and the ability to control the ball when needed.
Like many modern forged sets, even the best Callaway players like Patrick Reed and Phil Mickelson, are mixing and matching—using the scoring irons of the Apex MB and matching them with the forgiveness of the longer irons in the X Forged set.
Apex MB
This is a club for low handicappers who really want to feel their shots. That means the look is a classic forged design with a chrome finish. That doesn’t mean there’s not some tech here—Callaway advanced its center of gravity positioning to optimize the flight, while high performance 20V Grooves Precision are used to create consistent spin. Forged using 1025 Carbon Steel, the Apex MB is a player’s iron with a soft feel.

X Forged Irons
Irons for the player who generates a lot of speed, wants workability, but also a touch of forgiveness. This is for the player who wants to be able to work the ball, but needs a little bit of help now and again. Turf interaction and control is key to X Forged, which is a single piece, cavity back iron with center of gravity progression. The club’s 20V grooves are built to promote a high level of control and excellent spin out of any playing conditions, meaning they reduce fliers from the rough. The CG locations are optimized for even more control.
