The new Callaway Mack Daddy 4 wedge, designed by wedge maestro Roger Cleveland, offers aggressive main grooves that are saw-cut and milled to precise tolerances. Inside each of the main grooves is a series of micro-grooves that are cut to increase spin regardless of conditions.
“We’ve developed spin that we’ve never seen before,” Cleveland told Golf Town.
Cleveland says the Mack Daddy 4, with four grind options, is the most rigorously-tested wedge Callaway has created to date, and is being used by the likes of Canadian Adam Hadwin, and Masters winner Sergio Garcia. The tighter leading edge and compact shape makes it easier for golfers to hit shots from tight lies, while providing tremendous control and spin.
“Golfers are going to love the shape,” says Cleveland.
Product Keys
- The wedges come in 21 loft-bounce combinations, with lofts from 46 degrees to 64 degrees.
- Callaway used 8260 carbon steel for a soft feel.
- Available in Platinum Chrome and Matte Black.
- A system of four weight ports and milled aluminum medallions allowed engineers to progress the center of gravity upward for a solid feel on every shot.
Finding the Right Grind
With four grinds created by Cleveland for the Mack Daddy 4 wedges, the club developer says players need to understand their swings, or spend some time with a fitter to recognize the grind that fits their game. “Given the sole geometry on these wedges, we’re creating more spin and control for golfers,” says Cleveland.
We’ve broken each grind to help you find the one that’s suitable for your game and playing conditions.
C Grind
Makes it easier to play shots with the face open, this grind is ideal for medium or shallow attack angles, and firm course conditions.
S Grind
Medium-width sole and moderate heel relief to keep the leading edge low through impact, this grind allows for solid contact on open-faced shots.
W Grind
This wedge won’t dig, and keeps the leading edge close to the turf, making it great for opening up the blade and hitting high, soft shots.
X Grind
The new grind in Callaway Mack Daddy wedges, this club works well for those with steeper swings who play medium or soft courses, like those found in Canada in the spring and fall.
