Callaway is taking another Ai quantum leap forward in 2024 with its new Paradym Ai Smoke family of drivers. Featuring the most sophisticated driver face—dubbed the Ai Smart Face—in the company’s history, it was created using real player data and advanced machine learning to create a series of sweet spots all over the face.
“Through AI we’re taking that to the to the next level and that’s allowing us to introduce the all-new Paradym AI Smoke,” says Dave Neville, Callaway’s senior director of brand and product development. “I know this is a multi-year journey from the marketing side we’re saying sweeter from every spot.” The AI Smart Face technology comes from analyzing thousands of swings captured by Callaway.
“We’ve categorized over 250,000 swings that are out there in the fitting environments and fitting studios globally,” says Brian Williams, Callaway’s vice-president of research and development. “We’re looking at Callaway fitting centers and data from our own test center and driving range. We’ve built a platform now over 80,000 lines of custom code to harness that data and create a face that’s unlike any other.”
Technologies
AI Smart Face
Using swing dynamics—or Swing Code—from thousands of golfers, the all-new Ai Smart Face promotes optimal launch conditions and tight downrange dispersion. “We’ve asked AI to design a face that delivered that way can typically react in a different way for that player and improve their outcome,” says Williams.
Micro Deflections
Thanks to the Ai Smart Face, micro deflections are activated upon impact helping to optimize launch and spin on off-centre shots. The end result is multiple sweet spots all over the club’s face. “Our face construction is very different from anything else that’s out there,” says Williams. “And it allows us to control localized flexure. We can have a face that can flex in a different way from traditional golf faces. It lets us control the way that the golf club and golf ball react at impact.”
Carbon Chassis
By adding an internal titanium support structure, the Carbon Chassis is now 15% lighter. With the mass redistributed into the club’s head to improve launch conditions and add forgiveness. “We tasked our composites team to get us to a place where we were on the driver with a full carbon chassis,” says Williams. “We’ve been able to do that now with a full carbon sole and crown; we’ve been able to free up over 24 grams of weight and reinvent that.” By moving discretionary weight, Callaway has increased MOI or the forgiveness of the driver.
The Drivers
Paradym Ai Smoke MAX
The Ai Smoke MAX driver boasts a golfer-friendly design and customizable perimeter weighting, offering up to 19-yards of correction in shot trajectory.
Paradym Ai Smoke MAX D
If you’re a player who is looking to hit that elusive draw, you’ll want to check out the Max D version of the Paradym Ai Smoke driver. Built with high MOI (Moment-of-Inertia), a stretched profile at address, and a rear weight helps stabilize the head and increase launch.,
Paradym Ai Smoke MAX Fast
The MAX Fast Driver is built with high MOI, and a generously stretched profile at address, suited best for players looking for easy launch. From a fixed hosel and rear weight, Max Fast will be a go to driver for lightweight easy-to-swing performance.
Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond
Shaped with a neutral-to-fade biased face progression and a compact overall head size, Triple Diamond model will suit better players looking for workability off the tee. For players looking to increase ball speed and lower spin, a 14g weight can easily be repositioned from the rear to the front.
Which One Is For Me?
With four versions, Callaway is offering a driver from everyone with higher spin rates (Triple Diamond) to those who slice (MAX D). A majority of players will fit into the Smoke MAX, which can be fine tuned to specific swings. And with AI Smart Face, even those who don’t find the sweet spot should benefit with added distance.
