Honma introduces game improvement woods and irons

Craftmanship that’s head turning—that’s what Honma is best known for. But the company, whose irons are played by Justin Rose, is now entering a new market—the game improvement space, with the XP-1 line, which includes irons, hybrids and a driver. The set is designed for both men and woman and will be available at select Golf Town locations and golftown.com starting October 1.

Designed in Sakata, Japan, the XP-1 which sports lightweight crown construction in its drivers, and hybrid construction in the irons. All are designed to add distance for players who don’t have high swing speeds.

Technology

Driver

A lightweight carbon crown, which Honma says is the lightest in the business, allowed the company to create a lot of draw bias and make the driver a high MOI (or more forgiving). Using a Double Slot technology, which is also found in the hybrids and fairway woods, the entire face of the driver flexes, adding more speed to mishits, as well as more accuracy.

Distance is the key in the XP-1 fairway woods and hybrids, promoted through the use of a double slot, low CG and a thin, fast face. The company’s VIZARD shaft is another factor, and was a big part of the design.

Irons

Low CG and a fast face equals greater height on shots and longer carry. That’s the goal of the XP-1 irons, which are hollow on the long irons (4 to 7), while the shorter scoring irons offer a deeper cavity for more forgiveness. The result? Long, higher shots with the long irons, and more control with the shorter irons. Once again, Honma’s VIZARD shaft, with ascending weight design, is a key to the clubs.

Who are they for?

Have you looked longingly at the incredible beauty of Honma clubs, but thought, “I’m just not good enough for these?” If that’s the case, the XP-1 line is likely for you. From mid to higher-handicaps, the XP-1 line is going to help with your slice with the driver, and get height and length with your irons.

Honma XP-1 clubs are available at select Golf Town locations and golftown.com beginning October 1.
