They’re finally here. TaylorMade announced today the launch of its new P•7TW irons, made specifically to mirror what Tiger Woods uses on course.
While it is well known that many tour irons do not have much in common with the products consumers purchase, that’s not the case with these irons—you’re going to get exactly the clubs Tiger plays. That means the same nuanced head design, which reveals some unique features to his clubs, and the same shafts.
“Consumers have never had the opportunity to play irons like mine …until now.” —Tiger Woods
When Woods played Nike irons, he was notorious for using his own unique set—right down to a ball that was crafted specifically for him. In that regard, the P•7TW irons are one of the first true glimpses we’ve had into the nuances of Woods’ weapons on course. And there are some secrets that are revealed in the irons that no one saw coming. It is said no one scrutinizes their equipment more than Woods, and there’s surely some indication of that in the design.
While not a limited edition, the premium price point and unique display case will make these irons an instant collector’s item.
Tiger’s Fingerprint
Individual approach
Every iron in Woods’ set was considered individually based on what Tiger wants it to do. The current irons Tiger plays took two years to develop, and it shows in their unique qualities.
Tungsten
10 grams of tungsten is buried in the back of each club head to improve trajectory control and promote a deeper feel at impact. Where that tungsten is located is specific to each iron, but you won’t see it as chrome covers the weighting.
Milled Grind Soles
In the past, Woods picked through eight apparently identical irons to put together his set. Now TaylorMade uses the same milling process found in its Hi-Toe wedges to ensure every iron is the same throughout the set. “With Milled Grind, knowing that I’m getting essentially the same set that I just wore out is huge,” Woods says. “I no longer have to hit hundreds upon thousands of golf balls to find a set.”
How To Get Them
You can pre-order now, with the irons officially launching May 1. They are available in right-handed only, 3-PW and come standard with True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 Tour Issue shafts and Golf Pride’s Tour Velvet Cord grips. The retail cost is $2,599.99.
