How to Find the Right Golf Club

How do you know which driver works for you? Or which brand of iron best suits your game? Given all of the great options in Golf Town in 2018, picking the right driver, fairway wood, or iron to fit your game is undoubtedly a challenge.

While everyone should be fit to make sure they have the right combination of shaft and club head, many golfers aren’t sure on which manufacturer’s club is correct for them or even how to make that determination. CLUBCOMPARE™, which uses SwingLabs software, allows you to compare  up to three clubs selected by you or a Golf Town Master Fitter and get an unbiased recommendation on which best fits your game.

The process

“All you have to do is warmup a little, and perhaps have some sense of where your swing is at,” says Erik Lee, who fits at Golf Town’s Woodbridge, Ont. store. “From there you can take three clubs, make some swings with each of them, and the software will make calculations of what is best for you.”

Erik says the process is a great way of eliminating some clubs and narrowing your purchasing decision.

Which golf club is right for you

Do you fit into TaylorMade’s new M3 driver or is your swing more suited to Callaway’s Rogue? What about Titleist’s 917 or PING G400?

The software analyzes an objective analysis of your swing with each club, looking at launch data, and the performance characteristics that show the strengths and weaknesses of each club for your specific swing.

“Some people don’t really know how hard they swing or whether they should be in a regular shaft or a stiff shaft, for example,” says Erik.

In fact, some golfers find significant benefits by taking the same driver—say Cobra’s new King F8—and testing it with different shafts to determine which is best.

What’s next

Erik says many golfers find the CLUBCOMPARE™ process so helpful and simple, that they move to a full fitting, fine tuning the details they learned on CLUBCOMPARE. “The CLUBCOMPARE process is such a great place to start,” Erik says.
