EVERYTHING A GOLFER NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT CUSTOM FIT CLUBS

Fact: One-third. That’s the number of golfers who get their clubs custom fit to improve their performance.

Golf technology, especially in the latest clubs, is more advanced than ever and we’re at the point now where almost all new drivers come with a detailed booklet explaining how you can make adjustments to help your swing, fix your slice or hit the perfect draw.

Fact: Most players never alter their driver, meaning they aren’t able to tap into these technical advances of the latest clubs from the top brands we carry at Golf Town. Even the smallest adjustments that our Master Club Fitters make to your clubs can have a big impact on your game,  leading to better scores.

With Custom Fitting Centres in all 47 Golf Town locations across Canada, our Master Club Fitters are here to help you get the most out of your game. Our fitting staff are required to complete annual training and fitting certification with our major vendor partners, making them ready to help you find the best clubs for your individual swing.

Custom fitting is a simple way to improve your game, but there are many misconceptions about custom fitting. We’re here to debunk some of the biggest myths about custom fitting:

Myth: One size fits all

If someone that is 6’4” and someone that is 5’8” walk into a clothing store, they’re not buying the same suit off the rack. If you’re investing the money into a good suit, you want it tailored to fit you properly.  It’s no different for your golf equipment. Custom fitting helps to ensure you have the right club head design and shaft combination for your skill level. Length and lie are adjusted based on static and dynamic measurements during the fitting process. The result? A club that is tailored for your size and your swing, allowing you to make better contact and shoot better scores.

Myth: My swing isn’t consistent enough for fitting

Fitting clubs isn’t about changing a person’s swing. Regardless of your ability, your swing will have tendencies that are repeated. Slice the ball? Fitting can help. Don’t hit it high enough? Once again, fitting can improve that. Custom fitting isn’t meant to alter how you play. Our goal is to fit the right clubs to your swing. That said, don’t be afraid to ask about those technical terms used in club fitting–concepts like “spin,” “launch angle,” “ball speed,” and others that sound daunting, but usually have a simple explanation. They’ll help you have a better understanding of the fitting process—as well as your own particular golf swing.

Myth: I’m not a good enough player to be fit

Every player can benefit from fitting and clubs that don’t fit you can actually hinder your success. Most golfers have swing tendencies that can be addressed with fitting, and if done correctly, they’ll have more fun playing golf, regardless of their handicap. If your clubs fit your specific swing, you’ll play better and have more fun.

Myth: Club fitting is expensive

At Golf Town, we offer different levels of custom fitting to cover exactly where you’re looking to upgrade.  From simply taking you through the performance advantages of one club versus another, to having our Master Fitters take you through complete bag custom fitting, there is something for everyone and all budgets.

Plus, our major manufacturer partners also recognize the importance of custom fittings. Once our Master Fitters get you perfectly dialed in, we are able to offer a variety of shaft options as part of their standard package at no additional charge to make your driver or irons work for your game.

  1. I am not buying new clubs but am interested in having my existing clubs fitted. Can you do that?If so,what is the approx cost?

  2. I bought Big Bertha irons at Golftown, London2 years ago. Can I have someone check to see if the lie is correct for me. Nobody suggested fitting for me at purchase time. I also bought Calloway driver. They had me swing and compare different drivers at that time. I am extremely happy with my irons but think making sure the lie is correct would help my game. Thanks

    1. Hi Robert, You can definitely call the store and book some time with a Fitter to look at your swing with your current set. They may be able to make minor adjustments to them that could improve your swing.

  3. Hi just want to ask so I’m currently using hand me down clubs that are 20 years old and I usually only go out playing 2 or 3 times a year but plan to go out quite a bit more this year and I want to upgrade my entire bag but only have about a 1200 dollar budget for a upgrade is this too low of a budget for fitting clubs

    1. Hi Caleb, we recommend either visiting or calling your nearest Golf Town location to speak with one of our Master Club Fitters as they would be able to provide more insight on if your request is something that can be accommodated! You can find our store directory at this link: stores.golftown.com. Thank you!
