Cobra’s Vice-President of Product Architecture, Jose Miraflor, says there’s plenty of reasons mini-drivers have generated a lot of popularity in recent years. As the game has evolved, the way players attack holes has changed as well.

“If you’re a tour player who knows just how far you hit your driver, there are some par-4s that it won’t work for,” he says. “Sure you can hit a fairway wood, but a mini-driver is a bit bigger than a fairway, and more forgiving. You get driver-like conditions, so you don’t lose as much distance as a 3-wood. It just works for so many reasons.”
That’s why Cobra is introducing its TEC-MD, which offers tighter dispersion, more forgiveness and is easier to launch than a 3-wood. And for some players who struggle with the large 460 cc heads on drivers, the TEC-MD offers a smaller option.
“The normal Joe who can’t hit a driver can now hit a mini driver and they lose less speed than going to a fairway wood,” says Miraflor. “In fact, they gain more forgiveness speed and spin control than a fairway would. They really benefit from having this mini driver in the bag.”

Construction
Using 811 Titanium for the body and a carbon crown, Cobra positions discretionary weight to make the MD easy to launch.
PWRSHELL Face
A staple in Cobra’s repertoire of technological achievements, PWRSHELL is once again employed, this time in their hybrids. The physics and scientific lingo is confusing, but the end result isn’t—a slingshot effect that captures and then redeploys energy back into the ball for longer carries, optimal trajectories, and a lower, more forward CG.
HOT Face

Designed to provide more speed across the entire clubface, this increases distance on mishits out to the toe or heel.
FutureFit33

Cobra brought its FutureFit33 system to the mini-driver, a system that is better than anything previously on the market. Using a chart or Cobra’s Smartpad Technology, adjustments are easy to make and easy to understand, with all 33 settings accessible.
Is it for me?
With a standard loft of 13.5 degrees, and a shaft length of 43.75 inches, most golfers will find this easier to hit accurately than a driver, and longer than a 3-wood. Faster swingers will benefit from being able to hit it off turf into the longest par-5s, but most players will find the true advantage off the tee. “I can tell you that every single one of our staffers on DP World Tour, Korn Ferry, and PGA Tour, all have this in their bag,” says Miraflor. “They carry this, a 3-wood and a utility iron every week, and they decide which one is correct for them given the course setup. But guys like Ricky Fowler and Gary Woodland, it’s in their bag full time.”
