The way Mike Yagley sees it, some manufacturers see irons sets as a bit of an afterthought from the sexy drivers and fairway woods. But Cobra looked at irons differently when it came to the DS-Adapt. “We’ve gone out of our way to put a lot of engineering into these,” says Yagley, Cobra’s Director of Innovation. With two versions hitting the market, the DS-Adapt and DS-Adapt Max, mid-to-high handicap golfers have offerings crafted specifically with their unique games in mind.
New 360 Speedshell Face
The newly expanded insert extends across the entire toe and sole area, providing an extended Speed Channel for improved face flex. How much of an improvement? Twenty-three percent, which offers more speed, higher launch and more distance. “The face flexes, but the mass is not attached to the face … so that whole thing really is going to flex,” Yagley says. “The more the face flexes, the more energy you can transfer into the ball and the ball is on the club face a little bit longer. Impact is about transferring energy and also not losing energy. That’s what these irons do.”
It all starts with the face, Yagley says, and the super high strength steel utilized by Cobra that allows the company to make thinner faces that weigh less. “It allows us to put the mass where we need it,” Yagley says, improving the centre of gravity.
Are they for me?
DS-Adapt MAX
A new offering from Cobra aimed at higher handicaps, this is a more forgiving iron with weaker lofts and a wider sole, making it easier for players to get the ball in the air. They are slightly more oversized, with a longer blade, thicker topline and more offset and 2-degrees weaker than the DS-Adapt.

Cobra focused its energy on making each iron set distinct, using progressive TECFLOTM construction to make the irons distinct. That means the 4 to 7-irons are hollow and utilize foam microspheres and 360 SPEEDSHELL face to maximize speed and distance on longer approach shots, while the 8 to pitching wedge feature a hollow construction with foam microspheres for distance with enhanced precision.
