Many golfers recognize that club fitting is a key element to improving their games. In the instance of Cobra’s new DS-ADAPT fairways and hybrids, a new technology allows the clubs to be fit in a way previously not possible. FutureFit33, along with other key technologies, allows fitters to not only fine-tune the way a player interacts with their clubs but also to improve gapping between fairway woods, hybrids and their iron set.
FutureFit33, which provides 33 loft and lie combinations, is a key component because it allows the fairways and hybrids to have the same characteristics during fitting, but also allows them to be lofted up or down without compromising. And for the fairway, there’s no Max-K model because the fairways are already forgiving, making it unnecessary to have a high MOI fairway offering.
Weighting
“You’ve got adaptive weighting on these like the drivers, and specifically you’ll find it on the LS model,” says Yagley. “Each of them have face tech built into them, and again it is optimized for each one of the faces and the heads. You’ll find more adjustability on the LS model than on the X model because that’s one of the ways they are distinguished from one another.” Overall, a titanium body is paired with a lightweight carbon fiber crown for significant weight savings. In the LS model, this allows 60 grams of tungsten to be positioned low and forward for lower speed. A thin titanium face insert with H.O.T. Face technology improves launch and offers faster ball speed on off-center strikes.
Smartpad
A technology designed to keep the clubface square at address regardless of loft and lie changes.
Which one if for me?
DS-ADAPT LS
Offering the fastest speed and lowest spin, this fairway offers great opportunities at picking up distance. The LS is built with the deepest face of the three new DS-ADAPT fairways and uses FutureFit33 technology. Ideal for lower handicap players with higher swing speeds.
DS-ADAPT X
Fast and forgiving, this is the model most golfers will fit into. With a mid-to-forward PWR-Bridge designed to reduce speed, while also increasing launch conditions, this is easy to get into the air. The shape is slightly shallower than the LS, encouraging slightly more spin.
DS-ADAPT MAX
The most forgiving of the three fairway woods, this option comes with a draw bias and you can position the weight into the back for more forgiveness or the side for draw bias. Ideal for the higher handicap golfer and available all the way to a 9-wood.
Also available in a women’s model through to a 7-wood with a 43-gram shaft.
Hybrids
“We see people’s eyes light up when they hear we put FutureFit33 into our hybrids,” says Yagley.
Why? Because it of the option to dial in gapping in a way that was not previously considered possible. Like the other clubs in the family, you’ll find Adaptive Weighting, H.O.T. Face tech, as well as FutureFit 33 in the hybrids. Available from 2 through to 6-hybrid (28 degrees).
“With the ability to adjust lie so you can work flight and turf interaction and then dial in the loft or your gapping,” says Yagley. “It is pretty amazing.”
Are they for me?
The adaptability of the Cobra’s DS-ADAPT hybrids means they are easy to fit from practically any golfer, and the ability to dial the loft in through the FutureFit33 system makes them easy to match against your lowest lofted iron.
