Cobra Goes All-In On Putters; Releases Two New Series

After dipping their toes into the putter pool last year with the release of the KING SuperSport-35, Cobra has jumped right in for 2021, unveiling two putter lines for golfers seeking to play truly innovative equipment. Cobra’s KING 3D Printed Series includes three ultra-modern takes on traditional putter styles, each made in partnership with Hewlett-Packard and utilizing SIK Golf’s Descending Loft Technology (DLT).

The other putter line, the KING Vintage Series, draws its creative inspiration from the sleek lines of classic American muscle cars while also leveraging SIK Golf’s DLT face insert. Whether you’re one for keeping with tradition, or like to break away from it, both of Cobra’s new putter series deliver the latest technologies in two distinct lines.

KING 3D Printed Series

The phrase “one-of-a-kind” gets thrown around a lot these days but this putter series is truly unique, the only to implement 3D printing technology throughout the entire line. The majority of the putter is made of “traditional” parts, metal namely, but one vital piece isn’t. The nylon lattice cartridge was developed in partnership with Hewlett-Packard’s Multi-Jet 3D printing technology. This cartridge, sandwiched between the metal pieces of the putter, isn’t just some peripheral piece of tech, it’s a key component that works to generate improved MOI (moment of inertia) and deliver a softened sound and vibration at impact, all things great players love. Nylon is also significantly lighter (about half the mass of aluminum), which gave Cobra’s engineers some discretionary weight to maneuver with.

But Hewlett-Packard isn’t the only partner in this relationship. SIK Golf has also contributed to the KING 3D Printed Series, offering its Descending Loft Technology (DLT) in the face design. What’s DLT, you ask? It’s quite simple, really. The face of the putter is de-lofted, or slanted, from top to bottom to ensure the same smooth roll whether you impact the ball high or low on the face. Speaking of the face, Cobra’s gone with an aluminum insert, freeing up some weight while still delivering a feathery feel. When you add it up, the result is a series of putters that deliver more consistent rolls with every stroke.

KING Agera

Big, bold, and beautiful—that pretty much sums up the Agera model in the KING 3D Printed Series. An authentic oversized mallet, the Agera has the highest MOI of the trio, meaning its stability through impact is unmatched. This is courtesy of the 53g of tungsten strategically placed under the hood of this premium putter. Like the GrandSport-35, Agera is also available in armlock specs.

KING GrandSport-35

A traditional blade that’s moderately oversized, the KING GrandSport-35 is a modern interpretation of a classic design. With 35 degrees of toe-hang and 30g of tungsten located in the toe and heel, this putter is ideal for those with an open-shut putting stroke. If you’re an arm-lock putter, like Bryson DeChambeau, this model is also available with those specs.

KING SuperNova

For those who prefer a bit of a larger setup but not keen on a full mallet shape, the KING SuperNova delivers on the middle ground with a fang-mallet design. Equipped with an exceptionally high MOI for improved stability at impact, and 42g of tungsten weighting spread about the head’s outer limits, this putter is a steady and stable unit promoting that grandfather clock-style stroke.

KING Vintage Series

Getting back to the basics of beauty, the KING Vintage family of putters takes its inspiration from the great car models of America’s past. All coming in a sleek charcoal finish, the KING Vintage line includes four models: Sport, Torino, Stingray and Nova. But Cobra didn’t stop there, they’ve taken their specifications one step further by delivering two toe-hang loft options for each model, with the exception of Torino, and added an adjustable weighting system that golfers can use to dial in weighting and feel.

KING Vintage Sport-45

A blade design aimed at those with a slightly arching stroke, the Sport-45 is the standard set up in the KING Vintage line. Made of 304 stainless steel with a plumber neck hosel and two adjustable 20g weights, this model is sneakily sophisticated. Like all models in the line, Sport-45 features SIK Golf’s Descending Loft Technology (DLT) for more consistent rolls wherever you strike the ball on the face.

If you have a more exaggerated arc to your stroke, you may be interested in the KING Vintage Sport-60, featuring 60 degrees of toe hang and two 25g weights located on the sole for even more adjustability. This model also comes with a flow neck hosel to more easily swoop the toe and face back to square at impact and is only offered in right hand.

KING Vintage Torino

A semi-mallet design perfect for those who have little to no arc in their stroke, the Torino model is made of 304 stainless steel for a solid, consistent feel. As with the blades, the Torino includes adjustable weights with two 10g dials. This model also includes a key piece of visual tech, with three lines on top of the putter to help players with their alignment at address.

KING Vintage Nova

The ever-popular “fang” design (fang, prong, dual-bar, hollow-mallet, etc.) is back again in the KING Vintage series with its Nova model. This putter has been designed for the player without much arc to their stroke. If you’re a fan of this style of putter but don’t fit the arc-less criteria, Cobra’s thought of you and created the Nova-40 setup, with 40 degrees of toe hang to promote a more open-shut face path. As with the other putters in the family, Nova and Nova-40 come loaded with adjustable sole weights for enhanced customization.

KING Vintage Stingray

Saving the biggest for last, the Stingray and Stingray-40 (for those with a subtle arc stroke) are oversized mallet designs made for players who enjoy the unrivalled stability and MOI found in these sorts of setups. With a single adjustable weight port and a 304 stainless steel construction, the overall goal of this putter is solid consistency and improved feel, both of which Cobra’s delivered on.

Arccos

All putter models in the KING 3D Printed Series and KING Vintage Series come with a COBRA CONNECT grip technology for easy stat-tracking capabilities via Arccos Caddie.
