Cleveland’s new HB Turbo irons, Launcher UHX irons built for speed

Easy to get in the air and forgiving when you don’t catch them solidly—that’s Cleveland’s new Launcher HB Turbo irons, while the company’s UHX irons are designed as a progressive combo set that makes the longer irons easier to hit, and allows you to be more exacting with your scoring irons.

Here’s a closer look at the new lineup, which hits Golf Town stores October 4.

Launcher HB Turbo Irons

Forgiving and easy to hit—that’s pretty much golf’s Holy Grail for most companies. Offering a half club in extra distance over previous generations, the oversize HB Turbo irons fly high and capture lots of yards.

Hollow body

A hollow body construction allowed Cleveland to optimize the sole weighting, meaning even as shots travel longer, they still fly high—a key to distance irons.

HiBore Crown

This innovation pushes the center of gravity low and deep, meaning shots will fly high, but will also have the forgiveness to keep mishits on target.

Turbocharged Face

Using high-strength steel in the face that is thinner and hotter than previous generations, means the Launcher HB Turbo is long—really long.

Progressive shaping

Cleveland’s goal here was to make the long irons more like hybrids, and easy to hit, while focusing on shorter irons that look more traditional.

Who are they for?

A vast majority of mid-handicaps are looking for more distance on their shots, but they don’t want to sacrifice the flight of their shots. Holding greens is a key—and that’s what Launcher HB Turbo offers—high and straight for higher-handicap golfers. Want to get the ball in the air and hit it straight without putting a ton of time on the practice tee? These irons might just be for you.

Launcher UHX Irons

A progressive set of hollow and cavity-back irons, Cleveland is calling this “a completely new way to approach” a single set of irons. Progressive sets are a challenge for manufacturers. Often the long irons and the short irons still look like two different sets merged together. But Launcher UHX is more sophisticated—Cleveland nailed the aesthetics with this one.

Hollow

With the long irons (4 to 7) being hollow, the goal is added distance and forgiveness, as well as incorporating lower and deeper weighting compared to traditional game improvement irons. The 8-iron and wedge use cavity back construction that offers more precision than distance.

Variable High Strength Steel Face

Using high strength steel in the face insert offers lots of distance, even when not struck in the center of the face.

V-Shaped Sole

A sole designed to improve turf interaction and keep ball speed elevated.

Tour Zip Grooves

Laser-milled grooves offer terrific spin.

Who are they for?

This is a set that’s perfect for the aging golfer who needs technology in their long irons, but wants to be more precise with the scoring irons.
