Callaway’s New Chrome Family Of Golf Balls Aim To Perform Better For Every Golfer

You’re going to immediately notice some changes to Callaway’s Chrome family of golf balls in 2024. “We wanted this to be a moment in time where not only do we have an entirely new branding architecture, but an entirely new product line top-to-bottom,” says Jason Finley, Callaway’s Global Golf Ball Director.

The biggest changes will come to the Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X, balls that are suited for the aspirational and better players.

“There’s been a lot of work over the last few years, interacting with tour players, gathering their insights, understanding what they really like and want to see out of future products,” says Eric Loper, Callaway’s Senior Golf Ball R&D Director. “And incorporating those insights into designs and technologies that can make the ball perform better for everyone.”

Key Technologies

Speed

Engineered for faster ball speeds—particularly with the driver—the new HyperFast Soft Core builds on what the company has done well in past iterations of the golf ball and made them even better this time around.

“We set out to make our core much faster than we have before,” Looper says. “We have a completely new rubber system where it’s a new base polymer that we’re using in combination with a variety of ingredients that give us the targeted compression and material properties that we’re seeking.”

Flight

A new and uniquely designed aerodynamic package that Callaway is calling Seamless Aero Tour is built for consistent ball flights in all conditions.

“We’ve gone down the path of developing an industry first—a combination of Callaway’s hexagonal surface geometry with strategically placed spherical dimples that provide stability through the entire ball flight,” Loper says. Finley agrees and says, “Each ball will have a uniquely designed aerodynamic pattern, and it’s completely different from anything we’ve ever done, bringing our aerodynamics into a completely different zone.”

Control

With a new Tour Urethane Cover, players can aggressively go after shots through added spin throughout the bag, yet still get outstanding control and a tour-level feel.

“By using a softer cover, it makes the ball feel softer, which the best players have noticed on the 15-20 yard shot the ball is going to launch lower and bite more than it has before,” Loper says. “Even with an iron shot, if you have better connection with the ball and the club face where this is less slippage, you get more consistent launch conditions.

The Golf Balls

Chrome Tour

For outstanding performance with exceptional speed, consistent flight, incredible spin, and greenside control in mind.

Chrome Tour X

If you’re a player who demands the absolute best in distance, workability and spin, the Chrome Tour X is the model you’re after. Callaway’s ultimate tour ball has a new core, new inner and outer mantles, and cover.

Chrome Soft

That tried-and-true soft feel is Chrome Soft is back, however, this version is faster thanks to the technologies touched upon earlier. Both carry distance and total distance has been maximized.
