CALLAWAY UNVEILS NEW CB12 WEDGES

A wedge for those weekend warriors seeking to improve their scoring clubs—that’s what Callaway has come up with in the latest version of its CB12 wedges. With a wide sole and better distance, everything in these wedges is built for forgiveness. “We’ve clearly identified the need in the market for a wedge,” says Zack Oakley, Callaway’s Senior Product Manager. “Most players are playing Tour wedges that don’t have any of the benefits that we’ve mentioned. This a game-improvement wedge for the game-improvement golfer who plays cavity back irons.”

Tri-Sole

For many golfers, wedges, especially 56 degrees and up, will be used for bunker recovery. Callaway recognizes that and added more bounce that provides added forgiveness. “Ultimately, this product is all geared toward forgiveness,” says Brian Herr, Callaway’s manager for wedge R&D. “We have feel technologies, we have spin technologies, and certainly that’s what most players are looking for. But for this specific category of player, it’s forgiveness. We’re trying to deliver something that’s just easier to hit.”

Tri-Sole is also essential for those players who hit a little behind the ball, as the sole glides through the turf, keeping consistency on speed and turf interaction.

Perimeter weighting

Callaway crafted the irons with 12 grams of perimeter weighting, especially around the topline that helps with center of gravity and creating spin.

New grooves

There’s a new groove pattern in the wedges, currently found in Callaway’s Opus wedges. It’s a tighter pitch groove with a different angle, and is designed to create more spin around the green. Specifically, Callaway says the key is offering more spin on shots from 50 to 15 yards. Additionally, there are urethane microspheres incorporated to provide a great feel.

Is it for me?

“This is a wedge that an aspirational player can look at as more of a bridge between the game improvement irons and your wedges,” say Oakley. “It’s all about spin and forgiveness.” By incorporating the CB12 into your bag, you should find more consistency on shots in and around the green, as well as out of the bunker.
