Callaway Rogue Pro Black Irons

A player’s distance iron, now in an all black finish.

Black is back. In this case, it is back on Callaway’s new Rogue Pro irons, now available with a black aesthetic that the company says follows a plan to “break away from established protocols to develop new ways to extract maximum performance from a golf club.” In other words, they look great, while still maintaining the benefits that have made Rogue irons turn heads since their launch.

Callaway’s Rogue iron lineup is about gaining distance without losing feel. And Rogue Black just makes that concept cooler still. Callaway’s Dr. Alan Hocknell, senior vice-president of research and development, says Rogue irons are a combination of Callaway’s key breakthroughs—variable face technology, and face cup—that results in improvements over any iron the company has taken to market.

“By combining our renowned ball speed technologies with optimal flight, control and great feel, all in a premium multi-material construction, we’ve achieved unprecedented performance levels for Callaway Irons,” Hocknell says.

With Black, Callaway added a stunning design and premium limited edition True Temper XP 105 shaft, as well as a black medallion and Lamkin Z5 grip.

Key Technologies:

  • The Rogue Pro Black irons come with the key features that made the initial versions stand apart—360 Face Cup and VFT Rogue Pro irons combined with the company’s 360 Face Cup technology with variable face technology to expand the portion of the face that delivers fast ball speed.
  • Face Cup employs a shallow, flexible rim around the perimeter of the face that flexes and releases at impact to increase ball speed, meaning even more ball speed even when you don’t connect with the centre of the clubface.
  • Tungsten weighting creates optimal flight conditions and allowed Callaway to position the centre of gravity in each of the long irons with significant precision, creating specific flight controls for each club.
  • Each club has an ultra-thin clubface for faster ball speed and increased distance. The downside of this can often be excessive vibration on mishits and a sound that good players aren’t fond of. By utilizing elastic-urethane microspheres, Callaway created the sound and feel golfers love.

Who is it for?

With its smaller head and thinner topline, Rogue Pro is a player’s iron for those seeking increased distance enhancements through technology. In this instance, Callaway has taken that a step further, offering all the benefits of the technology in Rogue Pro, and creating a super cool look that golfers are sure to gravitate towards.
