Callaway’s new Paradym AI Smoke is based on the notion the club maker could improve the way golfers interacted with the face on their clubs. After all, most of us don’t catch the sweet spot in the same way the pros do, so developers have worked hard to create woods where you’re not losing distance if you’re not hitting it in the center of the clubface.
In the case of AI Smoke, Callaway has used AI, as well as thousands of swings by golfers in fit centres, to come up with a fairway wood with the most sophisticated face ever. “We did take the same approach in terms of categorizing real player swings with their fairway woods to look at where there were commonalities or differences,” says Brian Williams, Callaway’s director of research and development.
The result is a fairway wood that features advanced shaping and the broadest selection available, and are an ideal choice for golfers seeking a consistent launch and a stable, straight ball flight.
“We’re seeing similarly compelling results to our driver,” says Williams. “These fairway woods have tested longer and straighter, with improved dispersion, higher launch, and lower spin than their Paradym counterparts.”
Key Technologies
Ai Smart Face
Like their driver counterpart, the Paradym Ai Smoke fairways used Ai Smart Face, a technology in face design that utilizes thousands of actual player swings. The goal is to have a fairway where spin is optimized and there are sweet spots across the face.
Carbon Chassis
Carbon is key in most drivers and fairways these days because it is light weight. In the Smoke fairway, 24 grams of weight has been repositioned, partly to enhance launch and spin, as well as to the back to improve forgiveness.
Tungsten Speed Cartridge
A tungsten speed cartridge helps push the center of gravity low and forward, helping limit spin and improve distance.
Refined Shaping
With progressive shaping, AI Smoke Max Fairway Woods offers the choice for players who want consistent launch and a neutral ball flight.
Which one is for me?
Callaway put a lot of consideration into how different types of golfers swing their fairway metals. “We saw a lot of similarities in terms of things like path and face angle, but consistently different impact locations in our MAX D and MAX Fast player segments,” says Williams, referring to players who slice or have slower swing speeds. “We saw impact locations that were much lower on the face. Consistently on all these products, there were swing codes that swing down on the ball of the face.”
Because of these findings, Callaway crafted four different fairway woods to deal with how each type of golfer approaches their individual performance limitations.
Paradym AI Smoke Max Fairway
It turns out that even the majority of golfers hit their fairway woods too low on the face, says Williams. With that in mind, Callaway tried to adjust how they approached designing the club. “In our Smoke MAX core market segment, impact locations were still lower on the face, but just slightly before the center line,” he says.
Paradym Ai Smoke Max D Fairway
The AI Smoke Max D fairway wood was designed with an upright lie angle and a neutral face position, offering forgiveness and high launch with a draw bias. Its adjustable 3-wood feature provides players with enhanced control to fine-tune their launch preferences even further.
Paradym Ai Smoke Fast Fairway
The Ai Smoke Max Fast fairway wood stands out as a great lightweight option. It is designed for easy launch and includes a draw bias, ensuring a forgiving shape. This model is equipped with lighter components, a securely bonded hosel, and superior Winn DriTac grips.
Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Fairway
Featuring a steel sole and a forward-placed weight screw, the Triple Diamond fairway wood is tailored for skilled players who prefer a penetrating ball flight with reduced spin.
Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke will be available for pre-order January 12th.
