CALLAWAY OPUS WEDGES: WHERE ARTWORK MEETS TOUR-DRIVEN PERFORMANCE

For Callaway, the Opus wedge is a work of art featuring an innovative design and new performance technology.  The sleek wedge is named Opus because of its elegant appearance and exceptional performance. “To us the name hearkens back to the days of Beethoven and Mozart and their magnum opus, meaning greatest achievement,” says Paul Winterhalter, Callaway Associate Product Marketing Manager.

Wondering why the Opus is worthy of the name? The wedge produces up to 2600 RPM on dry ground and 4600 RPM on wet, with Callaway saying Opus creates more spin than any other wedge. Tour player Xander Schauffele used the Opus S6 52-degree wedge en route to claiming his first major at the PGA Championship, while LPGA U.S. Women’s Open winner Yuka Saso used the S6 60-degree wedge. Jon Rahm is another world-class player who cannot get enough of the groundbreaking wedges. “Shots around the green are so simple,” says Rahm. “I am able to chip and pitch with speed and know it will spin.”

Callaway’s new Spin-Gen Face Technology is the science behind the success. It consists of a new groove package and enhanced surface roughness while using the angled micro-grooves that Callaway has been successful with in the past, creating an ultimate approach.

Key Technology

Spin-Gen Face Technology

Opus has an all-new groove package that Brian Herr, Callaway Research and Development Manager, deems “the most aggressive groove in golf,” due to the minimal space between grooves that helps generate more spin. The wedge’s surface roughness was also altered by using a quartz blasted face allowing Callaway to produce a fully chrome wedge while maintaining a low launch trajectory and spin without making it a raw wedge.

Angled Micro Grooves

The angled micro-grooves are no stranger to Callaway golfers.  When hitting open-faced shots, the angled grooves create more spin and bring golfers more shot-shaping capabilities to their approach.

Tour-Certified Shaping

The Opus wedges use more tour-tested and validated shapes than any in Callaway history. The wedge features a higher toe peak, more radius in the leading edge and easier hosel transitions.

Versatility

Who doesn’t want a club that suits their skill and play style? The Opus series comes with four grinds to support your approach game along:

T: The perfect match for skilled players who keep the leading edge low for an ultra-shallow divot and demand precision in their approach. It’s available in 58 and 60-degree options.

C: Great for players looking to maximize their greenside versatility. The sole is slightly larger than the T grind creating better feedback through the turf but still allows players to shape their shot from anywhere on the course. It’s available in 58 and 60-degree options.

S: Classified as a grind for every situation—the S grind fits several players’ swings who prefer square-faced shots. It’s available in 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60-degree options.

W: The W grind is made for high-handicap golfers who are looking for that extra help around their approach. It has the widest sole and is the most forgiving of the Opus series. It’s available in 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60-degree options.

Callaway Opus Wedges will be available for pre-order on July 19th.
