Beauty, with a hefty amount of technology—that’s what Callaway is going for in its latest series of products that are hitting the market. From its Epic Forged Irons to its new Epic Flash Hybrids, and the return of a new Epic Star line, Callaway is aiming at the high-end of the market.
Here’s a closer look at the new lineup.
Epic Forged Irons
Jumping into the super luxury product market with two feet, Callaway introduces a beautiful forged iron that the company feels addresses a niche audience that’s growing.
“This is really a unique area for us,” says Steve Souringo, Callaway’s product marketing manager based in California. “There’s a real following for these types of irons—they have a feel that’s truly out of the world.”
Feel is key here, and there are fewer hot spots on the iron faces, so you won’t find they jump like some other game improvement irons. Using forged 1025 carbon steel, Callaway says these irons offer incredible turf interaction and great sound.
One of the key technologies is the Suspended Tungsten Core, which controls the flight. Merged with 360 Cup Face technology, a staple of Callaway irons, Epic Forged offers a high level of forgiveness usually found in game improvement irons, but with the sound and feel of a player’s iron. Quite a combination.
Who they’re for?
Players from a 5 to 20-handicap are really going to love the silky feel of Epic Forged irons, Souringo says. High MOI and great aesthetics are going to lure players to these irons. But expect a higher price point to go with them.

Epic Flash Hybrids
New to Callaway is the Epic Flash Hybrid, proving that in a world of utility irons, there’s still a spot for a great classic hybrid. This one sits between Callaway’s Apex and Big Bertha hybrids–not as small as the Apex, but not as large as Big Bertha, Epic Flash mans the middle ground. There are a bunch of firsts here—the first carbon crown in a hybrid for Callaway and incorporating Jailbreak technology into the hybrid. One of the keys is metal-injected molding tungsten weighting that offers great flight control and optimizes the center of gravity.
Who’s it for?
“This is for the player who can use the help from the higher MOI,” says Souringo. “This is a stable hybrid that launches the ball high and is ideal for the player with a mid-swing speed as the carbon crown reduces the weight and can increase swing speed.”

Epic Star Flash Driver, Fairway and Hybrids
Lighter equals faster. That’s the goal of the Epic Star line that has grown out of the Japanese market, where light clubs that are easier to square the clubface are very popular. Callaway is focusing its marketing efforts on the Epic Star Flash Driver, but the whole line is really geared to players who might be a little older, swing a little slower and are looking for technology to help them in any way it can.
Callaway used all of the tech you’ll find in its Epic Flash driver—Jailbreak, a carbon crown—and incorporated it into this line.
“You would not believe how many players could benefit from swinging these clubs,” says Souringo.
Who are they for?
The goal of the Epic Star Flash Driver is to assist those players who swing a driver at around 80 miles per hour. That’s well below those tour players you see on TV each week, but that’s not who this is aimed at. Those older players—or perhaps newcomers to the game—will find this easier to square up at impact, and gain more distance in the process.
