Callaway introduces ERC Soft with triple track alignment technology

ERC Soft is Callaway’s longest ball with soft feel.

Increasingly there’s been a sweet spot in the golf ball market—the player who wants the performance of a distance ball, but with more feel around the greens. That’s where the ERC Soft comes in. It is Callaway’s longest golf ball, but still with a soft feel for more control when you’re chipping around the green. While Chrome Soft remains the company’s top ball, players seeking some more length off the tee are going to find a lot to like in the ERC Soft. The company is also introduced a unique twist to the ball –  its new Triple Track technology, which is an alignment aid that’s unique to Callaway.

Key Technologies

Hybrid Cover

A multi-material cover promotes faster ball speeds for more distance, while still offering the durability one expects.

Graphene

First found in the newest version of Chrome Soft, graphene reinforces and strengthens the ball, allowing it to have a stronger outer core, while maintaining the soft inner core that defines ERC Soft. The goal, Callaway’s engineers say, is to get the inner core larger when compared with the outer core of the ball. “This gives ERC Soft the same engine as Chrome Soft,” says Jason Finley, Callaway’s global director of product strategy, woods and golf ball. “It also really helps with speed and spin separation.” That means you’ll get fast ball speeds off the driver with low spin, the key for distance.

Triple Track

2019 is appearing to be the year of “visual acuity,” with companies integrating alignment aids into several products. Callaway is introducing its Triple Track technology that it says is similar to what is used for planes landing on aircraft carriers. While rolling a putt into the cup isn’t the same as landing an F-18, the Triple Track tech, which is stamped on the ball, is designed to help you align your putts and drives with your target. “Our testing shows golfers are 35% more accurate when using Triple Track,” says Finley.

Who’s it for?

This plays in the same market as Chrome Soft, but if you’re finding you are dropping some distance from the tee, ERC Soft could be right for you. Finley, a single-digit handicap golfer, started using the prototype of the ball last year and found it was a great fit for the better player who wants distance, but doesn’t want to compromise on feel.

ERC Soft is available now in-store and online.

  1. Great looking ball with the new alignment lines. Was going to retire this year from playing but might not until I hit a few of these balls. Calaway. was .always my favourite.
