Better sound and feel find their way to TaylorMade’s Qi Max and Max HL Irons

While game improvement irons were once defined by their large form factor, questionable sound and marginal feel. Those days are gone. Mid-handicap players expect a lot from their irons, both the ability to get the ball in the air and the look and feel of their irons. TaylorMade designers were well aware of this when crafting their Qi Max and Max HL irons.

“That’s why we’ve designed both Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons to be the most complete game improvement irons we’ve ever made,” says Matt Bovee, Director of Product Category, Wedges and Irons. “From individual face optimization to revolutionary internal structures, Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons check all the boxes in the game improvement category.”

One of the key findings during research was the notion that most game improvement irons flex more at the toe at impact than elsewhere on the clubface, leading to more cut spin. Typical mid-handicap players struggle more with a slice or cut than they do with drawing the ball, leading TaylorMade engineers to look at design concepts that would allow the face to flex in unison.

Better feel and sound

TaylorMade surveyed 11,000 golfers and found they wanted a better sound and feel from their game improvement sets. To pull this off, TaylorMade concentrated on two key areas, the top line and the face. A new internal stability bar and ECHO Damper material were positioned in the head to reduced vibrations, improving sound and feel.

Face optimization

New face technology limits cut spin on shots, providing golfers with straighter shots that cover more distance. Similarly, FLTD CG places the centre of gravity in the long irons as low as possible, and higher in the scoring irons. This makes it easier to hit high soaring shots with long irons and allows for more precision in shorter irons.

Refined Shape

A thinner top line and nuanced blade length offers a more sophisticated look, with a reduced offset on the hosel.

Are they for me?

Qi Max

With its black Qi badge on the back of the iron, a smaller form factor and improved sound, these are game improvement irons that look sharp and sound great. If you’ve struggled with slices with your irons, these are worth investigating.

Also available in a Qi Max Lite.

Max HL

The lightweight version of the Qi Max (higher and lighter), these are ideal for golfers seeking higher launch conditions and increased clubhead speed. With lightweight graphite shafts, the overall club mass is 56 grams lighter than its corresponding Qi Max iron.
