Golfers spend more time on their feet than most athletes. Yep, if you’re going to be on your feet walking five miles over four hours, you’re going to want to be comfortable, and that’s exactly what Under Armour has sought to do with the latest generation of its HOVR golf shoe.
Called HOVR Drive GTX, this is a light shoe—about an ounce lighter than the Spieth 4 GTX, for example—but the focus is on comfort.
Key technologies
UA HOVR
A cushioning technology that offers incredible support and comfort without losing any of the lightweight benefits one wants from a top golf shoe. A great golf swing is built from the turf to the end of the club, and HOVR cushioning captures the energy from the golfer’s rotation and harnesses it. A compression mesh called Energy Web molds the HOVR foam.
Lighter
By using a lighter upper than the previous generation of HOVR, this is also a lighter version of the shoe, while still using Gore-Tex waterproofing.
Traction
What’s the benefit of a light, great feeling golf shoe if it doesn’t perform? HOVR GTX uses patent-pending RST 2.0 spikes that offer resistance in both vertical and horizontal directions. The company says the goal of this is the allow the golfer to keep their feet anchored to the turf and put the power into their swing.
Is it for you?
Under Armour’s 2019 version of the HOVR was a revelation—a shoe few anticipated, but one that really surprised many by its great mix of comfort and performance. If you’re a golfer who likes to walk while they play, and wants the most comfortable shoe on the market that still offers a high level of stability, HOVR might just be the right fit.
Women’s Hovr coming in April 2020.
