Classic Barstool Look
Perhaps the most popular of Barstool platforms is its hockey podcast, Spittin Chiclets. Hosted by former NHLer-turned-media personalities Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney, the podcast is often ranked in the top five of all pods – not just sports – on the charts. It has grown a legion of followers across Canada and to support the guys chatting puck, there’s now bags, headcovers, towels, tees, t-shirts and polos.
Not only that, but Whitney’s extremely popular vodka-and-pink-lemonade mixed drink (dubbed the ‘Pink Whitney’) gets its own golf-gear treatment as well.
Not to be outdone, but the ‘Foreplay’ guys have their own semi-official drink, the Transfusion. It mixes vodka with ginger ale (Canada Dry, of course) and a splash of grape juice.
Perhaps the most iconic of all of Barstool’s pop culture contributions over the last couple years has been the branding around one day of the week.
Its line of ‘Saturdays Are For The Boys’ t-shirts, hats and also has head covers have been some of the most popular drops ever.
As the story goes, one of Barstool’s prominent bloggers was sitting in a bar in Rhode Island when a grizzled old man said, to no one in particular, that ‘Fridays are for the men. Saturdays are for the boys.’ That blogger immediately tweeted the phrase, and 10s of thousands of shares later, a meme was born.
According to that blogger, its meaning is routed in Saturdays being for fun (and of course, women can come along as well, he says). Since there’s no better place to have fun on the golf course on a sunny Saturday, now you can rock the appropriate gear, too.
