How do we know when a classic becomes, you know, a classic? Those timeless pieces – in fashion especially – where, regardless of era, they manage to still act as an anchor to any outfit?
It’s been nearly four decades since Nike designer Tinker Hatfield helped launch the first-ever Air Max, with iconic visible air – where for the first time, the worlds of sports and fashion collided.
Nike introduced its Air Max line for golf in 2016, with Rory McIlroy being the first to wear in at The Players Championship that year.
Alas, almost 10 years later Nike is still doing it (same with McIlroy, in fact!) and this Air Max Day, Golf Town is celebrating the evolution of the golf shoe and its recent shift towards plenty more sneaker-style shoes.
Nike Air Max Day is a celebration of style, innovation, and of course, comfort, in footwear. All of those things are just as important on the course as off the course, right? Over the years, golf shoes have evolved in their design – and of course, with consumer input – from classic leather spikes to modern looks that blend sneaker-like comfort with top-tier performance, when it comes to the unique movement of a golf swing plus the thousands of steps between shots, too.
Nike Air Max golf shoes are an idyllic example of this modern-day shift.
There’s the known-the-world-over Air Max cushioning paired with a bold design that makes for a perfect pair.
AIR MAX 90
The Air Max 90 G stays true to the original icon with plenty of upgrades made for golf like a thin overlay that helps keep out water plus integrated traction. One of the key design points is the foam midsole combined with the Max Air unit in the heel that helps cushion every step.
AIR MAX PLUS G
Nike dubs the Air Max Plus a “street legend” that’s now tuned for golf. The waterproof material in the upper helps to keep you dry while the tuned Air Zoom unit helps keep golfers stable while also delivering a soft ride over 18 holes. The rubber lugs are also made for a wet traction rubber that offers great grip no matter the condition.
AIR MAX 1
The streetwear legend can now be worn while playing golf. It’s all of the usual Air Max 1 looks and feels you’ve come to love – just completed dialled in for golf. A special traction pattern, no-sew overlays to help keep water out, and lightweight comfortable comfort with stable feel helps these shoes perform as good as they look.
