They are one of the most iconic shoes in all of sport, and they’ve quickly become go-to footwear for some of the best golfers on the planet, too.
The Nike Air Max has been reimaged for the golf course after decades of being one of the coolest shoes for athletes across the sporting spectrum. In 1987 the Air Max 1 was launched. You know the one: It had ‘Air’ cushioning and featured the ‘window’ in the heel of the shoe that allowed everyone to see exactly what you were working with.
More than 30 years later, and the Nike Air Max – golf edition – has that same kind of ‘Air’ technology installed along with a waterproof overlay, integrated traction, and increased stability. It looks just as good worn off the course as on, since the design of the shoe has always been cool.
It’s easy to add some classic flare to an everyday outfit with the Nike Air Max golf shoes.
Now, Nike’s engineers have worked hard to get one of its no-doubt-about-it icons ready for golf, too, and that’s why some of the game’s top players are wearing them inside the ropes.
Brooks Koepka is likely the most famous Nike athlete to wear the Air Max on the course (he was even featured in GQ Magazine!) led by the rare Nike x Off White Air Max 90 he wore at the PGA Tour Championship in 2019.
Fellow Ryder Cupper and multi-time PGA Tour winner Tony Finau most often wears the Air Max 270. In 2022, he’s also become more known on social media for #FinauFresh – a short video showing Finau walking from the player’s parking lot to the locker room. While almost every sport shows its athletes arriving to the venue, golf has lacked in this area. Finau, a long-time Nike athlete, is often showing wearing some of the most fashion-forward units of anyone on Tour.
Jason Day, formerly ranked as the No.1 golfer in the world, always wears Nike Air Max – usually the Air Max 90 or Air Max 1.
Tommy Fleetwood, a staple on European Ryder Cup teams the last few years, switches between styles but is often found in the Air Max 97.
Cameron Champ wore a very special pair of Air Max 97s just a few years ago. One shoe was black while the other was white – it was in honour of his grandfather and a gesture for Black History Month.

On the LPGA Tour you’ll see Lily Muni modeling the Air Max 97, and Michelle Wie is often found on social media wearing Air Max shoes (usually matching her husband) or rocking the Air Max 270 on course.
It’s clear that whether you’re one of the best golfers in the world or just a weekend warrior, Nike’s long-time commitment to quality and performance in its Air Max are perfect to explore in 2022. And the golf version just keeps getting better – while never going out of style.
