Hyperflex was one of FootJoy’s most popular shoe, especially with newer golfers who came to the game during the last three years. It offered an athletic look, and was light and extremely comfortable, perfect for golfers coming from other athletic pursuits.
“FootJoy is very aware of the trends we’ve seen in the last few years and in some ways Hyperflex is a direct reaction to some of those trends,” says Patrick Trubiano, Director of Product Management, FJ Footwear. “One of our goals was to see the shoe on tour and for that to happen we needed to make some adjustments to the shoe.”
The key is stability. Golfers with higher swing speeds often find that they need more stability in their golf shoe to ensure the connection to the ground and appropriate energy transfer. There’s also a women’s version of the shoe, part of FootJoy’s renewed commitment to make the game accessible to all.
But don’t worry—the newfound stability won’t in any way hinder the comfort that made Hyperflex popular in the first place.

Stability for power
FootJoy knew they’d have to make changes to Hyperflex to get it on the feet of the game’s best players but wanted to stay true to the shoe’s athletic heritage. FootJoy used an OptiFlex outsole to create both stability and make the shoe flexible for walking. The stability is reinforced by the HyperFlex Carbon sole, which is molded carbon fiber in the sole that adds to the connection to the ground.
Power
HyperFlex uses a Power Stabilizer outsole to limit lateral movement in the swing, ensuring a secure connection throughout the swing. A ThermoPlastic saddle strap wraps the foot to provide additional lateral and medial support.
Comfort
The shoe uses StratoFoam cushioning to make it comfortable for those putting in 10,000 or more steps during a round. The midsole design absorbs shock and maximizes energy return.
Traction
FJ Traditions uses Pulsar LP cleats, which are low profile, but offer excellent traction control.
Are they for me?
If you loved the look, weight and feel of the original HyperFlex shoes, but thought they were lacking stability, you’re likely going to love the version that FootJoy has introduced.
