For John Ashworth, LinkSoul isn’t just an apparel brand—it is a school of thought.
Ashworth, who for more than 30 years has been on the cutting-edge of golf apparel, created LinkSoul to reflect a cross-over culture that blurs the line between what you’d wear on the course, and what might also work hanging out with friends at a restaurant over brunch.
Lifestyle Pieces
“We have tried to make it so it’s transitional,” said Ashworth. “It’s geared towards the everyday recreational golfer who wants to go play nine holes after work. It’s definitely more relaxed, and if you’re out in public, you’re not going to be called out for your style screaming “I’m a golfer!”
Make Par Not War
The line, which is new, is whimsical in design and conception, right down to its “Make par, not war,” tagline. The company’s t-shirts reflect a golf lifestyle, but are often clever and unique, whether they have an astronaut striking a shot on the moon, or showcase a golfer walking, clubs slung over his shoulder. The shirts are reflective of an attitude that’s pervasive throughout the company—golf is as much an attitude as it is a sport.
Multi Purpose Polos
That means LinkSoul’s polos work well on the course, but also fit at the cottage or on a casual Friday at work. The clothing designs are reflective of the Southern California lifestyle and surf culture that are an important part of Ashworth’s inspiration. Similarly, as LinkSoul was taking off, Ashworth helped revitalize Goat Hill Park, a short 18-hole course near San Diego that has become the focus of those interested in golfing alternatives in more relaxed atmosphere. You won’t find the need to tuck in your LinkSoul shirt at Goat Hill Park, but you will find an interesting mix of golfers, like former PGA Tour pro Dean Wilson, playing the course.
Not surprisingly, PGA Tour pros have been lured to LinkSoul, not because of big contracts, but because they like what the brand represents. Geoff Ogilvy, Lucas Glover and others can often be found sporting the brand.
“They came to us because they liked the gear,” said Ashworth. “They like the comfort, they like the designs, and they’re happy to wear it.”
LinkSoul incorporates comfort and style for men and women and is available now online and in store.
