Under Armour recently released it’s new Spieth 2 golf shoe with three major enhancements to the company’s first generation. It’s lighter, more flexible and more breathable to help make sure golfers are comfortable on the course, no matter the conditions.
“When you think about any other footwear, golfers spend more time in their shoes than pretty much any other sport,” says UA’s shoe guru Mike Forsey. “A round of golf can be six or seven miles. A golfer like Jordan is in his shoes for a long time, so when we look at comfort we look at fit, weight, flexibility, cushioning and the environment in the shoe. That all contributes to the comfort of the shoe.”
Working With The Pro
Forsey notes that UA worked regularly with Spieth in creating the new shoe—up to three or four times during the development phase, before coming up with a prototype. There’s some considerations that come with Spieth’s unique golf swing: “He has a pretty unique move to his left side, so we need to keep low profile,” Forsey says. “We’d never build that up. We want to keep him low to the ground because we don’t want him to that lateral edge and feel like he can’t go after the ball.”
From there the company created a final draft of the shoe and had a confirmation meeting with the British Open winner.
So what’s new in the Spieth shoe:
- Rotational Resistance spikes were newly developed for the shoe, and offer what UA says is “lockdown traction.”
- Gore-Tex waterproofing is a standard worldwide and was incorporated into the Spieth 2 to give you total protection while still being breathable.
- A new “smart weave” Clarino upper uses strong TPU fibers to increase stability, while reducing weight.
- The low-profile element of the shoe has remained consistent, as has the sporty aesthetic.
- Available at Golf Town in three different colours: white and grey, white and navy, and black.

With its increased stability, new spike system, and low profile concept, the Spieth 2 is a great option for the aggressive golfer who needs a shoe that provides stability—just like it does for the three-time major winner.
