Recapping the 2023 PGA Show

Written by Hugh Burrill, Golf Town Brand Ambassador

If it’s true that absence makes the heart grow fonder, then it was with full hearts that Golf Town returned to the PGA Show in Orlando after three years.

Anything and everything you can think of related to golf was there.

Day one began on the range at Orange County National, where we had the chance to speak with engineers from some of the industry leaders about the innovations pushing golf club technology to the limit. Increasing ball speed while providing forgiveness continues to be the elusive twin targets of engineers at every company.

Design innovation didn’t stop at equipment. Engineers were pushing the limits on golf technology all over the range. We were able to test drive the latest in personal golf carts and caught up with a Canadian company at the forefront of driving range technology with the “Pik-r,” an A-I controlled ball collector that doesn’t dent and even reacts when it’s hit by a range ball. The future is here!

Later in the day, we had the privilege of speaking with LPGA superstar Lexi Thompson.

She told us how excited she was to visit some of the most famous courses in the world on Tour this season, including the US Women’s Open at Pebble Beach.

We spoke with 2-time World Long Drive Champion Kyle Berkshire about the new Cobra Aerojet driver … and his hair routine. You’ll be surprised how much he spends on those flowing locks.

On day two, we moved inside the massive Orange County Convention Center, which was transformed into the CENTRE OF THE GOLFING UNIVERSE, packed with hundreds and hundreds of booths featuring the latest and greatest golf gear.

We caught up with Golf Town Ambassador Brooke Henderson, fresh off her season-opening win at the Tournament of Champions.

Brooke talked about her move to TaylorMade, her relationship with Skechers, what a huge deal it was to meet one of her idols, Reba McIntyre, and how much she’s looking forward to seeing the Brooke Brigade later this year at the CP Women’s Open at Shaughnessy G&CC in Vancouver. Can’t wait!

This was also our chance to speak with representatives from various companies about their new 2023 lines of clothing. It was obvious that designers have put in a lot of effort in creating products that provide comfort and maximize performance while emphasizing fun on the course with bold colours and patterns. Looking good on the course has never been easier!

When it comes to footwear, Puma and FootJoy, continue to set the standard. Puma’s Ignite Elevate and FootJoy’s Hyperflex Carbon are definitely shoes to get excited about. Stylish, colourful and packed with tech to help you play better without sacrificing comfort!

We also had the privilege of speaking with Scotty Cameron, the man behind the most successful putters in the game.

With an unwavering will to constantly improve upon world-leading designs, it was clear that Scotty Cameron is a true artisan who settles for nothing but the best. We also had some fun with a “Fast Five,” where Scotty Cameron revealed his love for country music and pineapple on pizza.

We wrapped things up by checking out the New Product Zone, where four companies stood out for pushing the boundaries of golf innovation.

Logan Golf Bags feature a built-in pushcart, the Zoom Broom is a portable leaf blower to help you extend your golf game into the Fall months, Mach One golf balls provide the perfect golf course prank, and Innodesign which debuted its new INNO-F1 single rider carts!

It was an extremely busy couple of days, but it was great to be back.

Let’s do it again next year!
