At first, Nick Sennema thought it was a joke
He was staring down at the Instagram notification letting him know that he was the lucky winner of a full set of TaylorMade P-790 irons and a complete fitting.
“So I was just checking my Instagram. I had a notification from Golf Town. I wasn’t sure it was real at first. I even brought my phone out to show my wife and it was Golf Town with the little blue check mark. Is this a scam, is this real? I screen shotted it and sent it to Golf Town asking is this for real, did I really win this? Yeah, it was pretty crazy, pretty exciting.” – Nick Sennema
In August, Golf Town and TaylorMade teamed up on a contest asking people to tell us how the P-790’s could help lower their handicap. Not that Nick needs much help in that department. He’s currently playing at a seven.
“Ideally, I’d like to get down to a 2 or 3. Or scratch in a perfect world. But I’m really looking forward to testing out these P-790’s.” – Nick Sennema
After a few moments of staring lovingly at the P-790 demos, it was time to try them out in the simulator and that’s where Golf Town’s fitting expertise really shines through. It’s not about fitting the player to the club to the player’s style of game.
“It’s more about tweaking. Talking about putting different shaft weights in his hand and being able to feel the difference off the heel and toe. And really be able to see the performance that he’s getting out of each shot. – Josh Duval, Asst. GM, Windsor Golf Town
And what will the P-790’s give Nick that he’s not getting from his current set.
“Forgiveness. Forgiveness is key. Again, as a better player he’s on point with distances but especially when we talk about those longer irons, coming into the green from a further distance, to be able to have that added forgiveness that when you miss the sweet spot, you’re still getting everything you can out of the club. – Josh Duval, Asst. GM, Windsor Golf Town
Much of that forgiveness comes in the form of TaylorMade’s advanced technology. The newly engineered SpeedFoam Air promotes face flexibility that adds ball speed while maintaining superior feel. Each iron contains up to 31-grams of tungsten in the toe to create more stability and forgiveness. Combine that with a thinner face and a repositioned lower sweet spot and you can almost hear your scores dropping.
After about an hour of taking swings in the sim and some tweaking by Josh, the numbers revealed that Nick was indeed getting more ball speed and spin from the P-790’s. The two things he was looking for.
So Nick, how do they feel?
“They feel amazing. I know my handicap is going down!”
And that’s no joke.
