Lisa Longball virtual clinics to return through May

Golf Town Athlete Lisa ‘Longball’ Vlooswyk has been a beacon of hope for so many during their time quarantined at home. Lisa wanted share her tips with Canadians to keep their golf game active so that, we courses did eventually open, you’d be ready to go. These clinics were originally planned to run in April only, but we are thrilled to be able to keep her Facebook Live clinics going through May.

“Even if it was just one person that said ‘it has made a difference’ while they’re staying home… when I read that it absolutely inspires me to want to continue this and help more, because I know it’s making a difference,” says Lisa. “The comments are what keep me going!”

Lisa’s Facebook Live clinics have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times from golfers not just in Canada but around the world as well.

If you’ve missed any, you can catch up here. You do not need a Facebook account to watch or tune-in Live.

A NEW SCHEDULE FOR MAY

Moving forward the clinics will be offered on Fridays at 1 p.m. ET beginning May 1st and running through to May 29th.

Lisa will be covering such topics as course management, pitching, equipment, junior golf, and the final clinic will be a Q&A with Lisa on anything and everything golf-related. You can view the full schedule here.

“They’re still going to be a weekday, but the day before the weekend so people might have a chance to watch it then. Golf Town has been great building Instagram stories about the clinic and getting the excitement up,” says Lisa.

“If I have the ability to help people hit a golf ball longer, straighter, and better… why wouldn’t I try to help them?”

Lisa has noticed how many people are sharing her pointers with family and friends, but she laughs when she receives messages from people who are not going to share her tips with their golfing partners because they want to use the tips for themselves!

“My day-makers are when people are taking time to say ‘thank you,’” says Lisa, who has done so well in responding back to as many comments as possible that Facebook cuts her off after 100 in a row.

“I was a former schoolteacher and when I have all this feedback saying ‘thank you,’ that’s what gets my juices flowing.”

Lisa believes the reason why her clinics are so popular is because of how straightforward she has been with her pointers and lessons.

She always wanted to be able to give people direct, to-the-point information so then golf can become less intimidating.

“I keep it super simple and people have appreciated the lessons being like that!” she explains.

MORE GREAT INFO TO COME

One thing that hasn’t been totally straightforward, Lisa says, laughing, is how her phone has flipped her around to appear left-handed.

She has had hundreds of people proclaim their excitement, believing Lisa is left-handed, but it’s not the case: it’s just a snafu with her phone.

However, Lisa has made sure to not discriminate in her lesson plans.

She has received so many notes from people who say they are confused at popular instruction videos or articles because they say ‘left foot’ or ‘right foot’ and lefthanders have to switch the lesson in their head. Instead Lisa goes with ‘lead foot’ or ‘back foot.’

While Lisa is normally travelling across Canada – visiting so many stores in person to put her clinics on – people have made a point to say how thrilled they are to see Lisa online, especially if they live in a town where there is no Golf Town store.

“I’ve been teased a couple times about my enthusiasm, but I just get excited! I’m so passionate about this game, but I believe that teaching is a vocation, a calling,” says Lisa.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook so you receive a reminder when Lisa is Live. If you can’t tune-in Live, the videos posted to our Page as soon as the broadcast ends so you can watch whenever you’re free.
