On a mission to diversify the game and make it more accessible for Canadians coast-to-coast-to-coast, Golf Town is amplifying its community outreach through a significant new partnership.
We have teamed up with Todd Keirstead and ParaGolf Canada on an expanded pathway for Canadians, regardless of circumstance, to ‘Come Out and Play’ through our 47 stores across the country.
The collaboration seeks to empower Canadians of any ability or disability to get out on the golf course to realize their potential while heightening awareness of the game for an underrepresented segment of the Canadian golf population.
“In the past six years, we have inspired Canadians to Come Out and Play, no matter their age, ability, gender or background,” said Fred Lecoq, Chief Marketing Officer for Golf Town. “We believe in making the game inclusive and accessible for all Canadians. We’ve developed programs that bring golf to more women and children and our latest partnership with ParaGolf furthers these efforts.”
Founded by PGA of Canada professional Keirstead in 2021 as a national structure for disabled golf, ParaGolf Canada’s mission statement is simple: Anyone can play golf, no matter what their situation.
“When I first saw Golf Town’s ‘Come Out and Play’ campaign, which champions physical and mental health benefits through the game, it really resonated with me,” said Keirstead, who joins Brooke Henderson, Lisa Vlooswyk and Mike Weir as Golf Town brand ambassadors. “Because that’s really what ParaGolf Canada is all about. I’m honoured to team up with Golf Town. The best part about this is how it dives so much deeper than a typical partnership.”
A year in the making, the ground-breaking initiative will be rolled out in four main pillars:
Adaptive Custom Clinics
Training workshops offered in-store for golf professionals, health-care professionals and individuals in adaptive situations to better understand the nuances of the golf swing.
Adaptive Club-Fitting
Through specialized staff training and fitting technology, players of all abilities will be able to find the right equipment for their unique needs in Golf Town locations.
ParaGolf Day/Adaptive Golf Day
Launching an annual day dedicated to adaptive golf that celebrates, supports and inspires individuals with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities through adaptive golf playing opportunities and learning experiences.
Adaptive Golf League
A nationwide adaptive golf league where individuals of all abilities participate in a non-competitive environment while having a chance to win great weekly prizes.
Golf Town Adaptive Clinics will be scheduled at select locations across Canada. Adaptive Fitting services are going to be made available through Golf Town fitting specialists in all 47 stores.
“Most adaptive golfers lack strength, dexterity and flexibility and sometimes a combination of all three,” said Keirstead, ParaGolf Canada’s CEO. “That means there are golf swing nuances fitters might not be aware of. The program with Golf Town fitters takes them through the entire process of adaptive fitting and doesn’t limit it to flatter lies, flexible shafts and specialized grips. There’s some unique innovations out there that allows anyone to be fit.”
For the on-site clinics, Golf Town and Keirstead plan to utilize a similar in-store model that has been so successful for Vlooswyk’s annual tour of women’s golf clinics.
“Being inclusive requires raising awareness on best practices to get the most out of the game for everybody,” he said. “By partnering with Golf Town, adaptive golf in Canada not only strengthens its community, but it also has a new home 365 days a year.”
How can I connect with someone to help me find affordable adaptive options to help me return to the game of golf? I was an avid golfer with a single digit Anglican when in December, 2019 I collapsed paralyzed from the waist down. I have regained the ability to walk with activator poles but balance remains an issue.
Hi Darlene, as we continue to implement our programming with ParaGolf Canada more information will be available on how and when our staff will be best suited to assist! Thank you.
Hello I am a person with a visual impairment, low vision. I have been playing golf for the last 3 years with the help of some good friends. I am inspired by your new program ” Come out and play”. I would greatly appreciate an opportunity to meet with some of your experts so that I can
– Direct my swing better so that I connect with the ball more efficiently
– If there is a ball locator, I am not able find the ball once I hit it.
Looking forward to your reply
