Creating the next generation of golfers—that’s the goal of Golf in Schools. It is an important initiative for Golf Town – one that is key to the strength of the sport in Canada.
Now through June 30, Golf Town customers can donate to the Golf in Schools program to help support a school in their community by providing golf kits to incorporate golf in their physical education curriculum.
“There are two very meaningful things we take pride in: our commitment to the game and growing it in our communities,” says Golf Town President, Chad McKinnon. “We are excited to partner with Golf Canada and our customers in support of Golf in Schools for a second year in a row. It’s an honour for us to be able to do our small part in supporting Golf Canada to have a big impact on growing the game for juniors. This is something our store teams feel passionate about and why we are looking forward to another strong fundraising campaign this season.”
Designed by Golf Canada, in partnership with the PGA of Canada and Physical and Health Education Canada, the Golf in Schools program helps students increase their knowledge about golf, promotes healthy active living, and provides a fun, age-appropriate way to expand on their physical development.
“The Future Links Golf in Schools program is viewed as an important first exposure program for Golf Canada,” says Jeff Thompson, Golf Canada’s Chief Sport Officer. “Taking golf to where Canadian youth are–the school system–is the best way to do this. We are introducing golf to over 400,000 students annually and these are students from all walks of life, varied ethnic backgrounds and to boys and girls alike.”
Last year, Golf Town customers raised over $44,000 to adopt 93 schools across Canada. This year, through the same campaign, we are hoping to raise funds to get this program into even more schools across the country.
“Golf Town’s support of the program has been tremendous,” says Thompson. In 2017, through a voluntary donation program, Golf Town raised enough money to adopt close to 100 schools, which is an outstanding contribution to growing the sport in Canada.”
As of September 2017, there were nearly 3,000 elementary schools registered in the program—28% of all of the elementary schools in the country.
Lend your support to the Golf in Schools program by making a donation during checkout at any Golf Town store now until June 30, and help inspire the next generation of golfers.
Attention: Golf Town President, Chad McKinnon. As second Vice President of St. Catharines branch for Retired Women Teachers of Ontario we are always looking for programs to support and for guest speakers to explain initiatives in our community. As avid retired golfers and shopppers of Golf Town, this program is one I had not heard of and retired teachers, many elementary, would support. Any chance of an executive interested in a one hour luncheon spot as guest speaker for a small honorarium for your program and a lot of enthusiasm for golf town. We are filling our fall 2019 program. Thanks for any further contact information. Susan Lewis
