CANADA’S CHAMPION, MIKE WEIR, BECOMES GOLF TOWN’S NEWEST AMBASSADOR

As the attention of golf fans worldwide focuses on Augusta, Georgia for the 2021 Masters Tournament, we are so excited to announce Mike Weir as our newest brand ambassador.

“For many – myself included – golf is so much more than a game. Especially this past year, the golf course became a place to come together, to take a break, to have fun and get active,” said Mike Weir. “That’s why I’m thrilled to partner with Golf Town. Together we’re celebrating the great game and encouraging more Canadians to discover all that the sport has to offer,” he added.

Mike Weir is one of Canada’s most celebrated golfers, influencing a new generation of golfers throughout his career. He was the first Canadian man to win a major. In 2000, he became the first Canadian to play in the Presidents Cup, where he led the international team to a 3-2-0 record. He spent over 110 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking between 2001 and 2005, and is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario. In 2017, Mike was recognized for his accomplishments and was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

Golf is more popular than ever with double-digit round increases recorded across Canada in 2020. Through our partnership we will continue to grow the game, by highlighting all that the sport has to offer to Canadians and their communities through a series of new co-branded content for golfers, including game improvement tips for new and avid players alike.

“I’m excited to do all I can to help continue fuelling that interest in golf among Canadians,” Weir said.

The 2003 Masters Champion will also be proudly sporting the Golf Town logo on his bag this season, starting with his upcoming rounds at Augusta this week.

Weir, an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, has had a fabulous start to his career on the PGA Tour Champions since turning 50. He’s notched three top-10 finishes in his last five tournaments including a pair of runner-up results. Weir is looking to build off a made-cut at the Masters in November with another solid result this week.

While he’s been focused on his own game of late, Weir is also thrilled to be able to share his knowledge of the storied Augusta National with the next generation of Canadian golf stars including Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes who, like Weir, are both from Ontario and are playing the Masters in 2021.

Weir joins fellow athletes Brooke Henderson and Lisa “Longball” Vlooswyk as Golf Town’s Ambassadors.

  1. Congratulations on adding Mike Weir to your brand ambassador team. A great champion in his own right, Corey Conners and MacKenzie Hughes show us the kind of influence his success has had on golf in Canada.
I look forward to following Mike in his new role with GolfTown.
