Golf Town & PING Celebrate Canada 150 with a New Driver

In celebration of Canada 150, we have collaborated with world-renowned artist David Arrigo to transform a Ping G Driver into a one-of-a-kind commemorative golf club and collectible art piece.  Find us on Instagram @golf_town to learn how you could enter to win this incredibly unique Canada 150 driver!

The club features a fantastic collection of national symbols that are a source great pride to Canadians everywhere.  Along with the Canadian Maple Leaf, there are images of Canada’s natural beauty, the art and culture of Canada’s people, the silhouette of a skyline that includes some of Canada’s greatest landmarks, and a nod to the other sport we as Canadians love as much as golf.

This one-of-a-kind Canada 150 driver was handcrafted by world renowned artist David Arrigo.

The artist behind this beautiful club is the gifted David Arrigo.  Renowned for his incredible artwork, the subjects of which are most often rooted in the sports world, David first gained notice painting the beloved mural outside of Wayne Gretzky’s restaurant in Toronto.  Since then, he’s taken his talents worldwide, bringing his signature Live Mural Experience to the biggest sporting events around, including the Super Bowl and the 2004 and 2010 Winter Olympics.  Whether it is painting a marquee sign at the Texas Motor Speedway or your favourite goalie’s hockey mask, there is no canvas that Mr. Arrigo cannot bring to life.  We honestly cannot be prouder of the work he has done for us with this club.

David says this is one of the more unique “canvas'” he has worked on and estimates it took 20 hours to hand-paint.

You could own this piece of history yourself!  Just follow us on Instagram @golf_town starting this Saturday, July 1.  Check out our post there about the Canada 150 driver contest, tag a friend, and in the comments section, tell us why you love golf in Canada.  One grand prize winner will take home this beautiful, one-of-a-kind club.  So good luck and have a happy Canada Day everyone!

As we celebrate Canada 150th Birthday as a country, we here at Golf Town have been particularly big fans of our country’s storied history out on the course.  It seems Canadians everywhere have a great affinity for the game.  Did you know that Canada is home to 7% of the world’s golf courses and is one of only 7 countries to have more than 500 facilities?  From Banff Springs to Cabot Links, our nation is home to some of the most picturesque tracks the world over.

And who can forget the incredible exploits of our golfing greats.  When you think of great Canadian golfers, you think of players like Moe Norman–the man many call the greatest ball-striker of all time.  Then there’s George Knudson, who won a record 8 PGA Tour events, a record he held alone for over 30 years.   It was eventually tied by arguably the greatest Canadian golfer in history, Mike Weir.  Still the only man from his country ever to win a major, Weir had an amazing career full of thrilling moments.  Be it the clutch putt that forced a playoff and led to his win at Augusta or his incredible upset of Tiger Woods during the 2007 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal, Weir always seemed to have a flair for the dramatic.

Of course, the men haven’t been the only players to win golfing glory for our nation.  Marlene Streit is the most successful amateur golfer in Canadian history, as well as a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.  With her win at the LPGA Championship in 1968, Sandra Post not only became the youngest woman ever to win an LPGA major title, she was the first Canadian, male or female, to win a major golf championship of any kind.  And then, you have Brooke Henderson, our Golf Town athlete, who just last year won her first major title at the tender age of 18.  With a bright future ahead of her, she could become Canada’s first ever multi-major champion.

These are just some of the many great golfers that call Canada home. We could go on and on, highlighting dozens of other great Canadians who have brilliantly played this game we’ve all grown to love.  They are all part of a rich sporting history this country should be proud of.

So with that in mind, we wanted to find a way to honour them and this great nation of ours as we celebrate this particularly special Canada Day.  Enjoy a great Canada 150 celebration and good luck to all who enter a chance to win our one-of-a-kind Canada 150 driver.

  1. On June, 30th ,2017 I turned 55 and I am 6 years clean of cancer. This would be a fantastic gift. I already play ping clubs so it will not be used, just cherished.
