Mizuno ST-Z New Family Of Clubs

Mizuno Uses CORTECH Chamber To Enhance New ST-230 Series of Clubs

It has taken four years, but Mizuno says its Speed Technology project with its driver has reached new heights, with the CORTECH Chamber creating new energy for the driver resulting in faster ball speeds and low spin rates. Those two elements, when combined, equal more yardage.

“We’ve been steadily working towards the CORTECH Chamber, which is incredibly effective at that job,” says David Llewellyn, Director of Research and Development at Mizuno. “Encasing the steel weight within the TPU Chamber means that we’re moving weight close to the face at the same time as creating an additional source of energy.”

Needless to say, gone are the days when golfers only turned to Mizuno for irons, the company’s drivers are finding their way into the bags of the best players in the game.

CORTECH Chamber

Calling it “the missing piece” to generating additional speed, the CORTECH Chamber encases a stainless-steel weight with elastomeric TPU, taking stress from the clubface and creating an additional source of energy. It also allowed Mizuno engineers to move weight closer to the clubface, lowering spin rates and creating a great feel at impact. Ball speeds with the new technology are up by three miles per hour, while spin is down around 200 rpm. Those two elements combined equal significant distance gains.

A mainstay of recent generations of Mizuno drivers, the titanium face is super strong and creates impressive energy transfer. And, as you’d expect from Mizuno, it is forged, not cast. The face creates a great feel at impact.

This will work for a vast majority of golfers looking for Mizuno’s key technology, and the forgiveness that is expected in a great driver. For those looking to hit the ball straight, with enough MOI to help on mishits without spinning too much, ST-Z 230 is worth taking for a test drive.

With a deeper profile, this draw-biased driver has some weight located closer to the hosel, meaning it will spin slightly more. That said, in lower lofts the driver should appeal to better golfers seeking to move the ball.

CORTECH is also found in Mizuno’s fairway woods. The ST-Z is a mid to low spinning fairway, that launches high. With a mid-size body, it will appeal to mid handicappers. With a MAS1C steel face, expect exceptional ball speeds.

Like the fairway wood, this is a mid to low spinning hybrid that launches high. It also uses MAS1C steel face, and is slightly larger, offering a sense of confidence that makes it part of the consideration set of a mid-handicapper.
